Lavender

Anyone recommend a good variety of lavender? I want a tall variety that will grow in plant pots to line a balcony so DD can`t easily jump out on to the road below. Cheers!
PS Completely clueless about gardening! Keep it simple!

Thanks Zippitippitoes! How big a space should there be between each plant? I`m planning on buying those really long plant pot container things to "line" the whole length of the balcony.. Will they grow fast enough to cover the balcony rails in a month or two?
