My tomatoes aren't ever going to ripen are they?

They're outside, near the house and we're in the south east, but so far this year about 4 have ripened, dozens of others are just hanging there, green and sorry looking. Seeing as we're in to October shall I cut my losses and dig out green tomato chutney recipes?

Do you have a good recipe? I've left mine outside in the hope the sun would come back but they're starting to look a bit waterlogged.

I'm going to try this recipe tomorrow then.... Such a shame, I was looking forward to juicy homegrown toms

That recipe sounds nice. I've tried a WI one -
1.3kg green tomatoes
675g cooking apples
675g onions
2 tablespoons salt
Chop finely/mince the above - sprinkle with salt and leave overnight. Drain the liquid, then bring to the boil with 575m (1 pint) malt vinegar.
Then add
2 teaspoons mixed ground spice
225g sultanas
350g sugar

Cook for about 1.5hrs then put into sterilised jars. It's gone a rich dark colour and is quite sweet - ready to eat in 6/8 weeks.

I had this a couple of years ago - was incredibly frustrating. I feel your pain. And I've really tried to like Green Tomato Chutney, but I just don't.

I'm going to give mine away as Christmas presents - I'll never eat 5 jars of the stuff - one maybe!

I picked all mine and packed them in a box on the kitchen window with an apple. About half are now red and ripe and the others just blushing. They taste delicious!

If you pick them and store them in brown paper bags, they'll ripen.

But I feel your pain, OP. I have cascades of beautiful tiny tomatoes on all my plants. But they're dark green. My one-year-old twins point at them and say "Peas!" Sigh.

I had the same problem and tried the brown paper bag with a ripe bannana with no luck. I stuck them all on the windowledge which was lovely and sunny for over a week, still nothing. Monday this week I said I was going to try to find a recipe for green chutney or just throw away, I have now just eaten a ham and hand grown tomatoe !!!! Literally have about 10 rippen overnight
