Anyone shown flowers or veg? Village show looms...

Hi all,

We've moved and for the first time have a veg patch. The village show is coming up and I am planning to enter the '6 runner beans' class and the '6 sweet peas' class.

ANy idea what they are looking for? I am guessing for the beans that they should be a similar size (how big?) and how should I present them?

Sweet peas - long stems, straight?? I really don't know at all what I am doing!

many thanks,
Bombastic

These things are usually listed in the show schedule - have you seen it?

Otherwise, you need beans that are (about) the same size, unblemished and undamaged. In our shows, people usually display beans on plates or on a square of black paper (black paper makes even the manliest veg look better).

With the sweet peas, cut the longest stems that you can, but freshness and quality (lack of blemishes or insect damage) are likely to be more important.

Err, mankiest veg. Bloody autocorrect.
