...for the front of my house. Any ideas? It's a small front yard, so the pot can't be too big.

I was thinking a climbing rose??

Jasmine - we have a mix of winter and summer jasmine from pots and they grow brilliantly

Ok, I have one of those....will it grow big, whilst only being in a small/medium pot (about 30cm x 30cm)?

Passiflora? They seem to be pretty much indestructable and grow under the strangest of conditions; my parents have one in a very small space that's taken over most of the side of the house and flowers beautifully every year.

Clematis?
Lots of different ones to choose from.

Our jasmine works well in the shade from small pots - needs watering regularly. If in sun, prob wont work well.

Ooo..mine will be in the shade...I thought they needed sun to do well. Shows how much I know Smile

I might get a clematis and a passiflora as well, and have a race!

No one thinks rose, then?

I'm a gardening numpty but understand that roses need lots of work...

I have grown roses in pots - you have to keep feeding. But that goes for anything in a pot.

I was going to suggest a type two clematis. I have a great one growing outside the back door. Looks lovely, but no idea what it is!

I have had no luck growing roses in pots, except for this one - Climbing Rose Maid of Kent. it is in a pedastal pot, wider at top and narrower then wider at the bottom. It is square shape in plastic. Height 50cm wide 32cm at the top bit. Had it 6 years. it is floppy and hangs down with long light pink trusses. Needs support trellis to tye the thinnish arching branches to. Blooms only once but for a long time in summer - no fragrance, though.
Did have a lovely evergreen strong, but not rampant climber in a small pot with jasmine scented flowers in summer, did twist itself round the trellis but helped it with plastic twine too. Leaves turn reddish in winter but not drop off. Thing is, I have forgotten the name as unusual, but is in the larger garden centres. I should have repotted into a larger pot, but was impossible, and died during the very hard winter we had after about 10 years.
Clematis are difficult in a pot, I have found, but had several for 5 years before they'd had enough in that pot and wanted a larger one, which i couldn't do and they died. Visit the large garden centres and ask about the evergreen climber with reddish leaves in winter and jasmine flowers
