Do hollyhocks like growing in pots and being transplanted?

Really really want hollyhocks - I used to have them in my cottage garden before moving to suburbia to be with dh. He loves evergreens and has a thick hedge of various prickly varieties, so the new hollyhocks would be struggling for light and water.

If I planted them in pots and brought them on until they were bigger/more able to fend for themselves, d'you think that they might transplant OK? Anyone successfully moved hollyhocks?

i grew them i pots in the greenhouse once and transplanted. they were fine. just make sure you dont disturb the roots too much when planting out as they have an enormous tap root. good luck
