Dandilions - what's a good weed killer for them?

I've got a gazillon Dandilions on my lawn they keep growing back & popping up quicker than I can keep up with them.

What is best to use to treat them? I'm a novice gardener & I know when I go to the garden centre there will probably be as many brands of weed killer as there are Dandilions! Any advice on which to go for? I also have 2 cats do don't want to get anything that's going to make them ill.

Thank you green fingered MNers

Thank you- great advice. I am surprised how quickly they all sprout up but I guess thats why keep the lawn cut will really help. Smile

I find glyphosate (weed killer) by far the best sort of thing for this. It will go down to the roots and kill the whole plant. But yes it will cause bare patches. You can always resow seed over these bits though.

You can also get a tool which is good for digging out deep rooted weeds like dandelions, but due to their highly effective spreading of seeds they keep coming back!
I'm not allowed to weed out all of the ones in our garden as both DP and DD like them and think they are pretty..
