Is it too wet to mow my lawn?

I live in the SE, where it has been chucking it down for a couple of weeks. It's now a dry sunny day, but the forecast for the rest of the week is terrible. I really want to mow my lawn today - should I or not, and if I shouldn't could you pelase tell me why not?
Thanks muchly

I am pondering this exact problem. Mine's an electric mower so I don't want to die horribly. Andiit really needs doing.

Come on proper gardening types, do you not care if Sue and I get electrocuted?!

I was wondering the same, as it's our first dry day today too. But I think I'm going to wait another day or so.

SuePurblyingoodVOICE · 30/04/2012 13:17

Mine's half moss anyway so I'm not too fussed about the quality of the cut. I would like to not be frazzled Grin.

Kveta · 30/04/2012 13:20

you won't die from mowing a damp lawn, but it won't cut as well IME. can you try a patch, see how it cuts, and do the rest if it looks ok?

our front lawn hasn't been mowed at all this year, as every time DH gets the back lawn mowed, it rains 5 minutes later. May have to get him out there this evening :o poor man :o (and before you say 'why can't you do it, you lazy woman?' I am v. pg, and not up to doing anything except sitting around MNing)

SuePurblyingoodVOICE · 30/04/2012 13:28

My neighbours would chase me out of the village with flaming torches if I hadn't mown this year Grin.

I know what you mean about the timing - I only seem to get front or back done, never both.

Kveta · 30/04/2012 13:30

I think some of our neighbours have actually bitten their tongues off trying not to have a word with us :o I haven't pruned the roses either, so our front garden is a disaster area. All due to morning sickness and shite weather though

next year, the garden won't know what's hit it!!

SuePurblyingoodVOICE · 30/04/2012 13:32

Not your fault, show them your stretch marks if they complain Wink

LadySybilDeChocolate · 30/04/2012 13:33

Leave it to dry out, it will turn to mulch and clog the blade up.

besmirchedandbewildered · 30/04/2012 13:37

LadySybil I was just on the verge of posting "fuck it, I'm going in" (or rather, out) but your wise words have driven me back to the kettle and the laptop.

Three cheers for LadySybil!

Grin Thank you. Enjoy your drink. It's a nightmare to cut it if it's long and wet, it will take you ages as you'll have to unclog the blades over and over again. Have some cake and put your feet up instead. Smile

blabalalalablabla · 30/04/2012 20:57

I did mine today on my lunchbreak - it took me over an hour - some parts were about a foot high.

Am now feeling smug as the rain started again a few hours ago. It didn't get too mulchy and managed to give it a good rake too (we need a 'pleased with myself emoticon :o )

Our 'lawn' is mostly moss so I'm hoping to get out again tomorrow and put some seed down.

SuePurblyingoodVOICE · 01/05/2012 08:23

I did mine Grin. And my bank, which was long. Then I had a lovely scarify of the moss and put some seed down which will no doubt rot

But after all that it's not raining anyway Confused

MrsBovary · 01/05/2012 09:04

Oh dear I'm afraid I made the wrong choice in waiting. Heavy rain this morning!

besmirchedandbewildered · 01/05/2012 12:35

I did mine too, had me Brew, ran out and did it in 10 mins flat while trying not to run my 2 year old over. It looks shit (like a haircut done with a knife) but significantly less shit than it did before, and I feel smug, and it absolutely threw it down last night, so am VEH VEH PLEASED with myself. Grin Grin Grin

I could have waited tbh, bright sunshine all day here!
Yay for your smugness though. Grin

Tesco is selling lawn seed at a bargain price.
