Narrow west-facing border behind a bench - scented plants wanted - but what?

That's it really. We have a long but narrow border behind a bench which I am clearing out of brambles and half-dead old shrubs. It is west-facing so in the summer we can sit out looking at the sunset with a glass of wine. I would really like some gorgeously scented plants to go there - but what? We are in the south-east and have dry, sandy soil.

Tobacco plants. Some surfinia petunias have a musky smell and last for ages.
Heliotrope Cherry Pie that smells of bitter cherry boiled sweets.

Was going to say nicotiana too, that's same as tobacco plants right?
Anything to climb up, you could have jasmine, honeysuckle, clematis.
Lavenders will be ok in dry soil I think.

Winter flowering honeysuckle, daphne and in spring scented narcissi, tulips and wallflowers and violets. For summer-night scented stock, sweet peas, scented clematis growing up tripods or roses, pinks and herbs. It all depends on what soil you have ,how sunny it is and how much time you have.As you can tell i really love scented plants and i am trying to plant as many as possible. The Crocus website will give you lots of info on scented shrubs/flowers for a west facing position.

check out roses!

Lavender! It loves good drainage. Lavender with gravel over the top to keep any moisture in. You can add bulbs (crocus, hyacinth) for spring colour.

Yes would also suggest roses as they love a west facing position. Although bear in mind the bees if you have loads of scented plants near your seating area (she says from experience!!).
