what to have instead of a lawn

Am moving into a new build there will be small patio , shed and a smal lawn area .But im hoping to discuss alternatiuves a si really do not want lawn area .Dc do need to be able to play out still

But find grass means I sink into it as in a wheelchair so getting outside to play with them be a pita let alone the upkeep of it

So any ideas ,was already planning flowers intubs so there at a decent height

What about astro-turf.

wonder if that will work out expensive though ? and would it last for a long time.Moving means im broke with flooring and wardrobes needed thats before i think of the garden .
