Bimming bindweed is growing out of my composter

DH blithely threw the weed rubbish in the composter, and now we have bindweed growing out of it.

I think that if we use the compost, we'll just sow bindweed all round the garden.

He claims that if the compost gets rank enough, the seeds will die.

Who is right?

And if it is me, what do I do with the contaminated compost? The idea of scraping it all out into binbags and putting it in the car to take to the tip is vomit-inducing.

You're right, I think. And it won't be the seeds you need to worry about, it's the little tiny bits of root, each of which will grow into another plant. If you pull it out very carefully, you might be ok. You could use the compost and just hoick out the bindweed as it appears...

Thanks.

Faced with the choice between sifting through compost to check for tiny roots or bagging it up, heaving it in the tip, scrubbing compost bin and starting over....

I have come over all Scarlett O'Hara and decided tomorrow is another day.
