Your local DIY outlet is probably the best place - they usually have a selection.

Can I add a note of caution if buying for children? If the cacti are labelled with names, avoid anything called Opuntia (AKA "bunny ears") as these have barbed spines and bristles called glochids, which will stick to the skin if brushed against, and can cause irritation and rashes.

I have grown cacti and succulents for over 30 years (have a large greenhouse full of 'em!) and am always keen to encourage youngsters to grow them, but some cacti can be a bit unfriendly! (I also sell on eBay, but mostly the rarer species)

Good luck with the party!
