What do you plant in the spot that becomes bare when the daffodils die back?

The title says it all really.

What can I put in the patches that will be left bare when the daffodils have gone that won't interfere with them coming back next Spring?

You could have a ground covering shallow rooted herb like sweet woodruff- when the daffs are out its new growth won't have started, and by the time the daffs have died back the plant is all springing up :)
