How do I flatten a bumpy lawn?

Mine is oblong, possibly 8m x 4m but has evidently been, in the past, a very different shape. The previous owners grassed in old garden beds but a) the grass is a different variety and b) inevitably, the 'new' bits are sunken, in places a good 3 inches. Not a good look on such a relatively small area of grass! At worst, I'd say one 1/3 of the lawn is sunken, line straight across it!

Should I:
-Start from scratch, dig it up and re-seed or turf?

-Attempt to take out the ridges and fill the divots/troughs by strategically removing lines of turf?

-'Fill' the dips with topsoil straight onto the existing turf and seed that?

-Any other ideas?

tia.

Dig it up, rotovate, reseed.

I've literally just come in from trying to get rid of my dips...I've filled them with top soil, rollered them, and laid seed, and rollered them again..the sprinkler is on them as I type...just need to keep the birds at bay......did this on another patch of lawn about 8 weeks ago and grass is now growing nicely, and lumpy bumpy patches have disappeared!
