Does anyone know what this may be, and is there any non-chemical treatment for it? They look like they might be a cocoon for something maybe? Small brown ovals (look a bit like wood lice but smooth, with white stuff underneath that goes like cotton wool when you try to take one off. Thank you!

They are scale insects - a type of aphid. They don't seem to be affected by some sprays- the 'scale' protects them. I just pick them off and squash them. It is a bit disgusting but quite satisfying in a way!

Thanks for your help! DP has just blasted them off with the hose but I'll keep an eye out in case they return, in which case I will squash them!
