Growing herbs and veg on a disused sandpit..advice please

Hello all gardenistas,I am an amateur but keen and ambitious gardener.We have alarge sanpit in a very sunny spot which my 5 year old does not use.I want to make that into a herb and veg patch.I have spent all morning raking out the weeds.what should I do next?

Dig over the soil/compost and depending on the condition of the soil you may want to add some soil conditioner/ well rotted manure etc... Once you've done this you can start planting your herbs and vegetables, or sow them as seed, or a bit of both, whatever takes you fancy
