Can I move a clump of tulips now?

Hello. We've got a lovely clump of tulips, that are about a week away from bursting in to flower...but they are right in the middle of an otherwise empty bed that is being turfed over. We've got the turf, and have done some other bits, but I couldn't bring myself to dig up the tulips - just in case. But the turf was expensive and needs using asap. Question: do you think the tulips would be better dug up and put in a pot, or back in the ground elsewhere? And any advice on best way to do this? Cheers.

I'd put them in a pot rather than in the ground elsewhere.
