No, not yet. Was planning on warming-up compost inside my greenhouse so I could plant some in a couple of weeks. Anyway, gale force wind blew my poor plastic greenhouse away :(
I managed to drag it back so hopefully I'll be sorted soon. Will definitely tether greenhouse down properly this time!

Oh dear! I think I'll wait fr a few weeks longer, maybe the last week in March/first week in April.

I've done mine.I'm growing them in an old dustbin this year.

Passmethecake · 12/03/2011 11:25

Just out of interest, how many have you managed to plant inside the bin? I put mine in large planters but I'm never sure whether I put too many in or not.

I am chitting some purple potatoes we got from Sainsburys- anyone have any idea when they should be planted?

Mirage · 12/03/2011 20:05

There were 5 Pink Fir Apple I think.I've got some more to put in but no where to put them yet.

Mirage · 12/03/2011 20:07

ShallI,you don't have to wait for them to chit, they'll still grow anyway. The ones that you miss whilst digging up your crop still grow the next year and they haven't been chitted.

I have, but I think it was foolish! They had three inches of sprout on them and I worried that they would be too fragile or start producing leaves if I left them to get much bigger. Two days later we had a light frost so don't know whether I have totally screwed it up or not.

SnowdropsMakeMeSmile · 12/03/2011 20:21

I did the first planter today. 3 potatoes.

Mirage · 13/03/2011 19:39

Grumpla, they'll be fine.Unless they have leaves already, the frost won't harm them.Mine got hit by a late frost last April, when the leaves were showing, and even then we still got a decent crop.

TaffetasCatCameBack · 13/03/2011 20:29

I'm in Kent and am planting next week. Mine were hit by frost last April too, and the leaves blackened but they regrew and had a good crop.

Phew! Fingers crossed then thanks Mirage!
