Not quite gardening...houseplant recommendation please

For something attractive (with flowers) at this time of year, I'd go for a peace lily. I think they look quite exotic and feminine.

For something modern and more architectural, I'd go for a fern or spider plant (looks better than it sounds!). Leaves on either plant are very interesting and very easy to look after.

..added bonus, they are all said to be great detoxifiers in the home! Introducing a breath of fresh air, when outside is frrrrezzing!

It's a very boring, white, shared hallway so just want to add a bit of a personal homely touch.

Anything will do well in a cool hallway - it's central heating that plants don't like.

It also depends how well lit it is don't forget. Peace lilies hate direct sunlight and refuse to grow, so if it's partially shady/reflected/diffused light it'll be grand :)
