What can I plant now in flowerbeds?

Have two flowerbeds in the front garden which I am having cleared of dead stuff/weeds on Wednesday. I need something hardy to fill the space.

There is already four small box type (round) trees along the edge so the plants will go behind this so prefer something bigger than the box trees IYSWIM?

I have not got green fingers so something which needs minimal care would be ideal.

Any ideas?

Not sure now is the right time to plant anyhting but I'm sure an expert will be along soon

Yes it's not ideal is it cybbo perhaps I should leave it empty and wait...

Or plant myself some lovely Christmas trees

Winter pansies?

Pansies will hardly be seen becuase the box tree things are in front - was thinking something more bush-like eg. fuscia, lavender etc. Think I'll leave it empty for now then and wait for a better time to plant....

Winter clematis?

you can generally plant hardy shrubs and trees in autumn, but given that the weather has worsened between your OP and now, if you have snow and frost you'll do best to leave it until spring. if not give us a shout and I'll have a think.

You can generally plant all year round, unless the ground is frozen or covered in snow. Cyclamen are great for winter colour.

But you could plant a combination of Hebes and Lavender under your box trees which are low maintenance; Hebe is an evergreen shrub, and Lavender with give you some scent and colour in the summer.

And plant some bulbs for a splash of spring colour - it's too late to plant the bulbs themselves now, but you can buy them 'in the green', in pots from garden centres.

What direction does the garden face, does it get much sun?

i have just planted out some perennial tubers/ roots - garden centre lady said this was fine to do now..... gosh i hope they flower!!!
