Thread ready for results day tomorrow!

It's hard on them going into college. Son did so well with his AAB but was meeting classmates with four A stars and somehow he felt like he wasn't quite good enough. Soon knocked that on the head! He's done brilliantly.

Btw is it worth asking for a review if a B is 5 marks off an A? (For the money! He gets a few thousand if he gets 3 A's). I'm assuming 5 marks is a bit too far off to ask for a review?

Does anyone know much about maths please? My daughter has taken her A level in Y12 and come out with a highish A ( but nowhere near remark territory). She's devastated. Is there any point in ploughing on with the TMUA? She is willing to resit and will be doing further maths so should improve speed and accuracy next year and will then have four A levels. She was wanting to apply for Imperial/UCL/Warwick/Manchester type places but looks like a resit might make her liable to rejection for maths?

This thread takes me back a few years.
DS1 is now an A level maths teacher so results day is very important to him as well as the students. He got the results yesterday and was very pleased. He's particularly delighted for a couple of students who overcame huge personal and health problems and got A*s.

DD off to St Andrews for Classics - 3 A* for English Lit, French and EPQ plus A for Classical Civilisation. She's thinking about getting the latter remarked because she's the sort of girl that can't let it rest!

DS is off interrailing and we’re in the med so it’s been a morning of multiple calls and constant messaging- thank god for WhatsApp and decent WiFi 😁

Hi all, looking forward some advice. My YP had a conditional offer from a certain uni, his first choice. He got a mark off an A (and therefor he got a B) and his ucas his showing “waiting for confirmation”. We already called uni at 9am and they didn’t know why his UCAS was not updated, the woman said she would have spoken with the manager but we are still waiting for some change. Has anyone in this position?
YP got an offer for his insurance but definitely would prefer to go to his first choice.

What do you do if they got their place? I had the day blocked out for what ifs'/clearing etc now I'm just sitting around thinking about how early In the day I can get a cocktail!

Durham didn’t open at all for clearing to home students this year, so I’m taking that to mean they’re going to be more flexible with those who missed their grades a little and let them in.

DS’s GF missed her contextual offer by 2 grades and was still accepted but with a foundation year. So this could bode well for your candidate 🤞

Good point. The day feels a bit flat now! Son came home from college quite quickly saying he didn't want to hang around and have his photo taken. He has a couple of friends staying over tonight so I might organise some food for that.

Don't know about Maths in general but Manchester requires an A star in Maths OR Further Maths.

So it's possible she could make Manchester her top choice and focus on getting that A star in the Further Maths?

This time 50 years ago ............. At my holiday job, waiting for Dad to call. We agreed he would open them and tell me when postie arrived. 2 were better than expected, 2 worse, so I didn't know how to feel.

Dd2 got ABB and is off to Newcastle! She’s very happy but also not sure what to do with herself all day until they can go out to celebrate.

A pop up came up just now with ' free dessert for people with A Level results' at Bills. There's a few of them so I think I'll take the dog for a walk then take DS to a celebratory lunch. His grandmother has given him some money as a well done too so he can spend that. I'm assuming if we've done all the student finance/ accommodation stuff that can wait!

BTW congrats to all those who took A-levels, regardless of grades. Even if you didn't get the grades you wanted, you stuck school out to the bitter end.

Well I've already treated myself ha ha. The tension at bedtime was so awful last night, I went online and bought myself something. Made me feel a bit better!

He'll be home for tea and then they are going into town.

Haha! Same. I had always planned to take DS for lunch if we didn't end up having to do clearing so we have that booked later. DS went to school for his results then to his girlfriend's so I just twiddling my thumbs at home until lunchtime. Also feeling very grateful that we're not dealing with clearing!

I had to get DS out of bed at 8.50!

He knew that Warwick had accepted him for his deferred place, but not his grades.

He got 4 A⭐️ and is chuffed to bits as his UMS were really high too. Grade boundaries for WJEC are really high this year so his hard work has definitely paid off

@Fabfabfab, Warwick don’t allocate accommodation until quite late and seem to do really well matching similar personalities, so get his choices in
