DS will be getting his A level results a week on Thurs and I have a question about uni accommodation. He has an offer and has sent in his accommodation form, but how and when will he find out which accommodation he has been allocated - does anyone know? Will he find out on 13th August, along with his (hopefully!) confirmed offer, or how does it work?

Hi Op it varies from uni to uni unfortunately so we can’t say. Is the info not on the uni website?

My ds had to apply once he had been accepted, but dd applied beforehand to het chosen uni (she didn’t go there but that’s not the point).

Can you say which uni? At some it is a real lottery but it does depend on your preference- shared bathroom is less popular for example.

Usually on or just after results day and confirmation of the place. Each uni varies in its timescale.

Okay - thanks. We may have the info somewhere, but I can't lay my hands on it atm and DS doesn't know either!

Are you on Facebook, OP? Most Unis have a “Current & Prospective Parents of XYZ University”, where you could ask.

FWIW with Leeds Uni last year, we got our first choice (not a particularly popular one; most kids wanted en suites) and were notified within about 24 hours of our Uni offer (which I think DD must have accepted promptly if that was reqd). I remember others still waiting (im)patiently a week later.

I think we had about 10 days’ notice for moving in day/slots.

It’s not a great time of year to go on holiday somewhere with iffy broadband/phone reception.

Good luck to all awaiting results. I remember DD being in floods of tears (of relief) at 8am.

PS: It is worth spending 10-15 minutes scanning through the accommodation contract to see whether you can cancel/swap (and any penalties for doing so) if you hate the room/location/flatmates. I think Leeds let you ask to swap for free (or withdraw) in the first fortnight and then charge £50 for a swap (and the rent difference).

Yeh good point on the swaps. Ds was at Loughborough and was able to swap flats within his hall in the first few weeks as he didn’t gel with his first flatmates.
