V levels replacing BTecs

Anyone else worried about the lack of information on V levels? My DD is ideally suited to doing a BTEC in creative media which we had hoped was the next logical step for her in Sept27 however gov funding is now showing these will cease but a new v level in creative media is not due to start until 2030?! I cannot find any more information online and because she has an EHCP we are being asked by LA now to propose a pathway for her.

The transition has been rubbish. Do you know if there are possible T-levels already available that she would be interested in.

They often say they will cut funding bit then extend it when there are no replacement courses. But that isn't helpful for forward planning.

I teach BTEC Media and honestly we never really know for sure because everything always gets changed 1000 times before it comes into practice, but there will be some sort of vocational programme running and if V levels don't come online until 2030 they will have to keep BTEC until then, simple as that. And quite frankly, having been in teaching as long as I have, anything with that far off a date is basically just a fantasy.

Thanks for your thoughts. It’s made harder as DD has not had a straight forward path through education but has really excelled at the L2 creative media so we thought brilliant she can move onto the L3 easily so this has now caused a lot of uncertainty. Not helped by the LA adding pressure to name early a setting because of the EHCP. Hopefully something will stay in place until they get this sorted. It’s been a great course at L2. She already has a side business linked off it making some money.

My understanding is that the BTECs will be defunded only as the replacement qualifications come in so she might be okay. I am highly sceptical about the 2027 introduction tbh

I'm highly sceptical even about 2030 for Media tbh! I've seen enough of these amazing new quals be introduced, been to the training, learned all about them and then never even actually start.

There's been such a backlash to V Levels that I wouldn't be at all surprised if the notion is quietly dropped in the next couple of years. BTECs work, the infrastructure for them is already in place, why do they need replacing? The cost of rebranding them is going to be huge and it's not clear yet if sixth forms and colleges will be expected to absorb the cost or whether it will be centrally funded. If it's the former, the backlash will just keep growing.

Thanks for the thoughts arrhh I’d hoped that post 16 would be a bit easier as send education in general is a shit show that just keeps giving but we’d found something that Dd was excelling at alongside maths ironically and she was looking forward to focusing more on her interests next year. I really hope the L3 stays in place as our local sixth form currently offers it. Sigh. Guess it will be more fun and games dancing with LA & EHCP whilst held in limbo again if no clear decision on these qualifications is made sooner rather than later.

Anyone know of an online L3 OCR Creative Media Provider? As a back up.
