BTEC/T level/other vocational 25/26 - part 2

New thread for those of us with DC doing vocational courses (and for those with DC looking for an alternative to A levels next year and looking for advice).

My DC is currently doing a level 3 extended diploma. He struggled academically at school and was pretty miserable in year 11. With a lot of hard work he got the grades needed for the level 3 BTEC and is now thriving at college.

Thanks @Sisublondie 🙂 . I think she must of been thinking about it for some time and she was worried about telling me. But all you want is for your children to be happy so 1000 percent pleased for her.

Bless her. Yes, you’re probably right… so, how fabulous it has turned out like this! And, I love the phrase “ you are only as happy as your unhappiest child”!

So, thankfully she’s so happy!!

Hi was on an old thread but have just found this one. My daughter did Level 2 Health & Social Care and did really well and got a Distinction which was enough to progress to level 3. She has come to the end of year 1 of level 3 but and this is a big change. She came to me and said she does not want to do this any more. She does not want to be a nurse etc etc. It helped that they had work experience placements she had to do for this course so she got a feel for what she does and doesn’t want. So she told me she really loves her job , she works in hairdressers as Saturday girl and other hours when needed. She really does love it, loves cleaning etc etc. Anyway within a day of telling me this she has sorted an apprenticeship with her boss and submitted an application to train in hairdressing. Proud of her to say the least. Who can say they love their job. I can’t believe it’s all happened so fast. Happy that she is happy.

Great news x

Well!! It’s DS’s “ day off” and he’s asked to go in…. But not in the bus!…. So, that’s good.. not the schlepping him in part, but hopefully I’ll get some info as to what is happening for the next few weeks!! 😹

Happy Mid- Week Wednesday, everyone! 🌟🤩

I have good news too, sort of.
DD is finishing up her placement for her Supported Internship, but has arranged to stay on for another year part time as an official 'Horticulture Student'. She will get training from a good 'name' in horticulture, and has consistent plans for a year.
So no college, or maths or English alongside, just this. Smile
Going to spend some time over the summer seeing if we can get her confident with the bus so we don't always have to drop her at 7.30am.

(The 'sort of' is it is still not paid work, but we can't have everything I guess.)

Sisublondie · 10/06/2026 08:35

ps.. @Raven08… whilst he’s faffing with his hair and stuff, I’m watching Rivals on my phone by the front door with trepidation……🙄🙀🙀🙀!! .. I thought I was on the latest Episode in bed last night after a three hour meeting, but I wasn’t! And now all I want to do is find out!!!! He’s clearly going to come down at the worst time! The naked photo of Maud just been found… so I guess you know where about I am! 😹😹😹x

That's brilliant news.

It's such a shame that it's not paid but I guess if it's "training" they don't have to. Does that mean another year of child benefit for you at least?

DS is "finished", got his last assignment back so not been in this week. (He is meant to go in anyway but he assures me he's missing nothing). Says he'll go in to be social at some point.
Y1 has ended a bit of a damp squib in a way, I usually really look forward to school being out for summer.

Hope everyone else is ok.

Should I be watching Rivals? It does not appeal in any way (though I did read all the books years ago).

Schitts Creek has turned up on iplayer, for anyone who needs to hear that!

Just a quickie until I get home as dumped DS off ( funny old thing,at his GF and they will “ walk to college”!) and saw yours……. YES to Rivals! And……. I can admit to my life size Dan Levy/ David Rose cardboard cut out which my best friend bought me …. 💖🥳💖🥳💖…. I simply love him!!!!! Yay to it being on iPlayer!!! 🥳🥳🥳…..

Raven08 · 10/06/2026 09:43

@LarkspurLane
Love schitts creek ☺️💙
I think wrt Rivals its the 80s nostalgia for me (and some hunky men...although I don't find AH attractive at all..)
As I suspected, dd is already bored and fed up.
I've booked us on an art thingy tomorrow.
I may suggest she joins a gym.
I can't be responsible for her days all summer 😪

We’ve had some good news - ds achieved a merit in his Level 2 so now has an offer for level 3. It took him quite a while to get into the swing of it but he really took off with his final project and also started to ‘get’ that you have to put down all your thinking. He’s ASD so this is a struggle for him to see it from an examiners point of view

Dd has dropped some CVs locally so🤞

Sisublondie · 11/06/2026 22:55

@Raven08.. Well! My day yesterday turned weird when I raced to pick DS up after my day.. to find the main ruse closed and an hour round trip ended up with getting home at gone 10! Today been just as hectic and just finished now..

Art thingy sounds fab, do I really hope it went well! And, 🤞🙏💖🤞 for her CV dropping off!! Gym is fab idea, too!! DS has changed his from here, to where his college is. Made perfect sense in September… doesn’t do much at weekends and now summer!! 🤯😹.. I’m sure things will start cropping up for her!

Ditto as to AH!! And. Noooooooooooooooo to what happened!!! No spoilers!! 😹!! To me, Rupert always will be blond!!!!!! 👱 sorry, Jilly!! ( RIP x). Apparently Fred Fred is getting voted top hunk!!!!!! Well…….?!🤷🏼‍♀️?! 😹?! ! x

Oh, hurrah!!!!! 🥳 What excellent news!!! That’s thrilling! Well done! I hope he rightly proud of himself!! He has maybe “grown into” his course in confidence, and exert respect… finding his feet.

HIGH FIVE!!! 🤩🌟🤩

Sisublondie · 11/06/2026 22:59

@Raven08… I wouldn’t sell my Dan Levy signed book if I had a gun to my head!! 💖💖💖💖💖💖

Well done to all the young people thriving. Lovely to read your stories ☺️

There have been fabulous stories so far, haven’t there?! Especially as there are ND DC out there like my DS who had been ground down so much at School that it was heartbreaking. To see him walk around with his head held high, and inform me of his hopeful end of term result next week (“hopefully a high Merit”🤞) is the best thing I could have dreamt of after the sheer horror of GCSEs!

🙏💖

Pootling!!!! I love that word!!! 💖😹💖!! I’m hoping to pootle, too!!! ( most likely pootling with my poodles!!🐩 😹😹😹!) .. Enjoy! x

Sisublondie · 14/06/2026 16:26

So! How has everyone been? Sun has come out here and I’ve got a ton of lavenders etc to play with outside. Decide where to put them!

DS has been at his girlfriends this weekend, as been to some event in Manchester. DS19 called from his trip to SE Asia… you know that feeling when you get an unexpected call and go “ Hey! How’re you?!”…. And the voice crumples up and breaks into tears…….. Yup, one of those. Relationship break up ( she is off in another country volunteering). Really sad, but the relief he wasn’t calling from a hospital. Or Police Station! 🤦‍♀️🙀!

Anyway! Hope everyone is enjoying one of the last weekends before the End. Of. Term.

Which is when, precisely??!!😹😹😹😹

Raven08 · 14/06/2026 19:12

Sorry to hear about your ds's heartbreak @Sisublondie 💔
Older dd still up and down after her breakup, it's hard to see them so distressed - it must be harder when they aren't physically there 😕
Dd is busy making plans to see friends this week, plus going on a college trip, plus doing some "projects".

Thank you. Yes, it’s grim, isn’t it? Truly is “ you’re only as happy as your unhappiest child”…. I’m just so happy I was running a couple of minutes late going out, otherwise I may not have got service on the country lanes, and if I’d got a voicemail and knew he was in South East Asia trying to get in touch with me, I’d have been bit weepy and felt wretched to say the least! So, small positives!!
I’m sorry Older DD still suffering. 😿.. Bless her x
Well, the “ projects” sound positive!!! I’m intrigued as to what the heck is going on with DS! Find out more in the morning, I guess!!

Night!!! 😻

LarkspurLane · 15/06/2026 08:29

Breakups in the air - DS broke up with his girlfriend last week! He seems ok about it, already talking about another girl he likes, I'm a bit heartbroken as she was lovely!
Should be up and going to college now but still in bed. Says it's all finished but we got an email from college last week saying he still had to attend.

I hope everyone is ok, it's so hard managing DCs' emotions, with so many things, I'd just rather be going through it myself than have them go through it (not good for them of course but easier for me!)
