CTec v BTEC?

My DS had decided he was going to do a BTEC as the next step. He was leaning towards sports but also considering business.
He visited a 6th form yesterday where they offer Cambridge Technicals, which we’ve never heard of. They are appealing to him as they have single / double / triple options which would allow him to do double sport and single business. BTECs, on the other hand, would need to be an extended diploma in either sport or business, or one / two certificates worth two A levels. That means he’d need to choose another A level and he’s adamant he doesn’t want to do any A levels at all.

From my brief reading so far I can see that the CTECs are assessed differently and seem
to have more exams involved. Does anyone have any experience they could share about them to help us work out if they’d be right for DS?

I’m afraid I’m no help as I don’t know anything about CTECs. My son is going a BTEC extended diploma and loves it (not in sport or business though). We have a vocational course thread on here. You could ask on there and see if anyone knows. Good luck with it though. There seems to be less information out there for vocational courses than A levels.

They are very similar from my knowledge. I have taught CTEC digital media and a BTEC in a different subject which were both 50% coursework, 50% exams. I haven't taught business though so can't comment on that. If they are level 3 they should carry the same weight in terms of qualifications.

Just to check, does the 6th form really offer both the CTECs in all 3 sizes? (Just because they can doesn't mean they will.)
