Uni league tables

Knowledgeable people of Mumsnet please help!

DC year 12 and starting to think about future. Friend kindly gave me Guardian uni tables. DC interested in economics. Top 6 are usual suspects Oxbridge, LSE etc. Number 8 is Brighton (BBC grades required), 15 is LSBU (BBC) but then back up to Birmingham at 21 with AAA. I know grade requirements are not everything but am a bit baffled. Brighton is 108 in overall rankings. Manchester is rank 30 and requires AAA.

It’s getting on 30 years since I went to Uni so trying to inform myself. Obviously visits are required, research into types of courses but how do you use / not use these rankings?

Thank you!

@Bufftailed I’m afraid most people laugh at the Guardian tables. They use different metrics for producing them and entry standards get sidelined!

The Complete University Guide is much more reliable. The Times too. Economics - A level maths and how mathematical a course is should be considered. CUG rankings look sensible to me. Birmingham 17 - Brighton 58.
