@Muchtoomuchtodo that sounds like a great quote. In my research over the past year I've never found cheaper than 1.5k so am ok with it (especially as DD is paying half!). She does have a nice little mini 1.5 diesel so that will increase the price, but it was too good a car to not get and should last her years (which is good if she has to drive to placements at uni too).

Good luck to your DS on his test. I was sitting in Morrisons car park waiting for her to finish, time never went so slowly. She even managed a pretend sad face when she came over which I fell for before she waved her test paper at me 😂. She failed every mock test she did recently and somehow managed to get zero minors on the actual test!

@JessyCarr your poor DD, how scary to have to go through this and a DVT too! I hope DD's recovery is quick, Y13 is bad enough without having this kind of trauma to deal with too.

Ventress · 10/12/2025 09:26

Congratulations on the offers @Muchtoomuchtodoand on the driving test pass @bluefineliner!

I’m sorry to hear about your daughter’s DVT @JessyCarrI hope she gets over it soon.

I was in hospital in September and it was routine for all inpatients to have a blood thinning injection each day due to the sedentary nature of hospital life. Hopefully the hospital will change their policy but that won’t help your daughter of course.

We have parents evening on Thursday and the subject mini test continue apace. Mocks take place directly after Christmas break. DS is still recovering from flu, it’s a really nasty strain apparently.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 10/12/2025 09:51

@Muchtoomuchtodo well done to your DS on all the offers!

Good news here too, DS has had offers overnight for Notts and Sheffield both offered at AAB. He really wants Bath so I'm quite envious that you've heard from them @Muchtoomuchtodo , when did your DS apply again?

Congratulations on the driving test @bluefineliner , it's such a relief to get that done. Watch though, I bet she'll still want lifts everywhere - or is that just my DS? 😄

@JessyCarr Oh I'm sorry to hear about the DVT, why on earth would they not take into account her family medical condition??

Muchtoomuchtodo · 10/12/2025 11:08

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn he applied on October 13th as he was an oxbridge hopeful. That’s not worked out but he’s happy with the 3 offers that he’s got so far.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 10/12/2025 11:15

Ah OK, so I imagine it will be spring before we hear anything then!

wonderstuff · 10/12/2025 15:12

Dd got an offer from Kent, she’s never actually been to Canterbury and isn’t sure she’s interested in going, so I’m not entirely sure why she put it down! But nice to know the application is in and being seen I guess.

Ventress · 10/12/2025 16:50

Well done to your DS on those offers @JustHereWithMyPopcornand to your daughter @wonderstuff. my friend’s son had Kent as his insurance- loved the campus but it felt very remote and far from home .

GirlsInGreen · 11/12/2025 11:05

Such lovely news with all the driving tests! Delighted for your DC!
Things aren't great here - my poor old mum is now in ICU & very poorly for the last week.
I've tried to sheild DD from the worst - she had her Ox interviews this week - 1st went great 2nd she says a complete disaster - she has good offers but says none of it seems very important right now.
Noises have been made about a gap year - but we shall see.
Best of luck to all the DC for interviews/offers💫

PinkChaires · 11/12/2025 14:57

unfortunately dd seems to be quite unmotivated these past few weeks, i think shes suffering from slight burn out. Today she had a bio test which she barely revised for and surprise surprise said it went horribly.
On a positive note, dds college finally submitted her ucas after 3 weeks and she got an offer for law at Manchester before even getting the acknowledgment email!

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 11/12/2025 15:12

@GirlsInGreen I'm so sorry to hear your mum is so poorly, I hope she improves quickly with that ICU care. Flowers I am sure your DDs interviews went better than expected, fingers crossed for a positive outcome.

Well done on your DDs offer @PinkChaires

wonderstuff · 11/12/2025 15:26

So sorry about your mum @GirlsInGreen

@PinkChaires i think the last few weeks of this term are really tough, it’s a long term, it’s dark, but an offer from Manchester is fantastic, hopefully will help your dd get her mojo back.

bluefineliner · 11/12/2025 19:34

@GirlsInGreen sorry to hear about your mum, hope things improve soon. Such a lot for your DD to think about atm, she probably did better than she thought though.

@PinkChaires I also think our YP are running out of steam and need a break now. This term has been so full on it is hardly surprising their motivation wanes at times. Congrats on the Manchester offer!

DD had her Newcastle interview today and all went well. She felt she answered questions as well as she could so just have to wait until March to find out if she has an offer now! Interview came through for Lancaster too today so 3/4 interviews so far.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 12/12/2025 11:27

@GirlsInGreen sorry to hear that your mum is so poorly. I hope things turn around soon.

DS has had a good week getting 100% in 2 further maths tests, and passing his driving test with no minors this morning! I wasn’t sure how it would go so this is great news! He’s got a very busy weekend with sport and social events so I’m going to look for insurance starting in a few days time.

KellySeveride · 12/12/2025 12:00

Top tip for all the new drivers… if you set the insurance to start in a couple of weeks time then the price comes down significantly. It does mean they can’t drive for 2 weeks but the saving is worth it!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 12/12/2025 13:43

@KellySeveride i have found a great deal for ds starting next Tuesday - the first time he’ll really have chance to use the car. I tried putting in a date a bit further away but it only changed the quote by pennies. Not sure if the time of year has got anything to do with it?

Anyway, I’ve found him a policy costing £921 for 12 months fully comprehensive with me and DH as named drivers (that tried autocorrect to naked 🤣) with a black box which monitors his speed, braking and cornering. I thought it must be wrong so phoned them to confirm that it will cover him if he drives to school and work as well as his social bits and it does so I snapped it up! I thought they were going to say that they’d missed a 1 off the front of the other numbers! It’s with Hastings Direct.

AuntyBulgaria · 12/12/2025 18:43

Last day of term here for DS. It's come at the right time as he has run out of steam and motivation. Luckily he has done his 1st set of mocks a couple of weeks ago so none immediately when he gets back.
His maths teacher is laying on a couple of revision sessions next week which is very kind of him so he has to go in for that.

But full on TMUA revision starts - can feel my nagging will have to ramp up next week.

Anyone else started the holidays today? (Not sure why my son's school has 3 weeks but not complaining!)

SilverBlue56 · 12/12/2025 20:08

Mine has finished too. His school used to be private (before he was born!) and somehow kept the long holidays. Not sure we would have made it another week 💤

He does have mocks second and third week back so no rest for the wicked but at least he can turn his alarms off for a while.

JessyCarr · 12/12/2025 20:29

Our two have finished term today as well. Purely theoretical for DD as she is back in hospital, but younger DS is tired and relieved to have a break.

Congratulations to your DS @Muchtoomuchtodo on a fantastic driving test result. Great news!

SilverBlue56 · 12/12/2025 20:38

I'm so sorry she's still poorly @JessyCarr it must be so stressful

Lalux · 12/12/2025 20:42

@GirlsInGreenso sorry to hear about your Mum.

@Muchtoomuchtodocongrats to your ds on the driving test.

@JessyCarrsorry to hear your DD is back in hospital. Am hoping she’s on the mend and back out soon.

@bluefinelinerglad to hear that the Newcastle interview went well and fantastic news on the 3/4 interviews. Which one is she waiting for?

Another week for us at school and feels like we are limping to the end of term.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 12/12/2025 20:49

@JessyCarr i’m so sorry to hear that dd is back in hospital. Hopefully she’ll be home soon and can recharge her batteries over the holidays.

Ds has got another full week and mocks the first week back so not a lot of downtime here!

hels71 · 12/12/2025 21:09

Another week to go here! DD has an offer of AAB for her second choice. She's had an interview for her first choice, but she thinks it went very badly. She's now on tenterhooks waiting to hear if she gets an offer ..... meanwhile busy ignoring schoolwork and taking part in the local pantomime!

gingercat02 · 13/12/2025 10:18

Oh sorry lots are going through difficult times in the run up to Christmas, hope everyone gets well soon 🥰
We had this terms progess report yesterday, I have only skimmed it (may have been having a pre- Christmas cocktails afternoon) basically OK, could try harder, which is the story of DS life!
Another BCC offer from Hallam.
Ready for the holidays, only 4 1/2 days to go. He is full of the cold and exhausted. Not helped by constant 18th parties.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 13/12/2025 10:39

@JessyCarr your poor DD, I hope she’s home again very soon. You must all be exhausted and so worried.

DS still has another week to go before end of term but he’s exhausted. Everyone in the house is run down with colds and he’s got a really long day at work today (they added an extra shift he hadn’t agreed to!) so he’s not very happy today. He had a maths test yesterday and got 85% so he’s happy enough about that anyway but really frustrating to hear he’s still making mistakes that relate to not reading the question to the end and missing how they want the answer presented. 🤦‍♀️

Ventress · 13/12/2025 15:18

I’m so sorry to hear that your daughter is in hospital again @JessyCarrI hope she improves and is discharged soon.

congratulations to everyone getting offers and passing driving tests. Well done!

DS has this week at school then mocks directly they go back in January. His history NEA is due in on Friday. After the mocks he will do his English NEA (second part). We had parents evening this week which went very well- all teachers were happy with DS’s work and progress.
