Sixth form question

My son started y12 in Sept and since he started there seems to have been a teacher absent every week. A range of reasons from illness, childcare, school trips, meetings have been given but no cover is provided so he just ends up missing lessons. Is this normal practise? I’ve contacted the school but they don’t seem to really be concerned/ taking action.
Just wondered if anyone else has had this experience.

It’s quite common not to provide cover for sixth form - students should be able to use the time for private study.

As to teachers being off, obvs that’s something that varies.

My son's school doesn't provide cover either; the students can either join another group's lesson (if the teacher is okay with this) or they study the module/subject themselves individually, or in their group. Sixth formers are expected to work on their own initiative whether there is a teacher present or not.
