Hi, my dd is having a wobble about whether to go to her own schools sixth form or loreto/xaverian. Anyone have any experience of these sixth form colleges? TIA

My son went elsewhere, but some of his mates went to Xavarian and have just finished their A-levels with great results. It’s a big place but they seem friendly and good at communicating with parents.

I don’t know anyone who’s been to Loreto.

The open days for both are in October, it’s worth having a look round.

redskydarknight · 29/08/2024 09:49

Is this for September (so October open days will be too late?)?

I don't have recent knowledge of these but I'd suggest trying local Facebook pages or seeing if your DC has a friend of a friend who knows someone there/just left.

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 29/08/2024 10:49

I assume this is for next September, as both are oversubscribed and you'll need to be holding an offer to attend this September.

Xav and Loreto are both outstanding - officially and in real life. They expect a certain level of maturity. No one is chasing you if you skip lessons or fail to complete assignments, but obviously your results will suffer. Lots of extracurricular at each. What subjects does your DC hope to study?

PinkChaires · 29/08/2024 12:24

Yes she has offer for both and enrollment is today, shes decided on one xx

Business, politics and economics.
Can they do core maths too? I'd like her to keep up with maths.. I got so confused with all the different options at different 6th forms!

TerribleWoman · 30/08/2024 16:16

Two of mine been to Loreto
No complaints at all.

I think Loreto has more SEN awareness fwiw (they certainly have more EP time and more TAs).

PinkChaires · 30/08/2024 17:14

My dd is doing it because she picked bio with a 6 in maths so its meant to support maths skills in biology but its also a plus for her as she didn't want to leave maths behind. Did they make your dd pick an extra curricular?

No, she's just doing those 3 a levels

My daughter has just had her induction at Loreto too. She was undecided between both colleges and her school sixth form. Think she is pleased with her choice. I have heard nothing but good reports about both Loreto and Xaverian so I'm sure she will be fine.

Koma · 08/05/2025 10:30

Hi,my daughter got offer from xaverian college, she took business, economics, psychology, need suggestions anybody from xaverian How's the college, any kind of suggestions would be much appreciated.

TerribleWoman · 08/05/2025 12:03

Both Loreto and Xaverian are very good.

peacypops · 08/05/2025 14:40

Agree that both colleges are excellent from what I know. My daughter is at Loreto but has many friends at Xaverian who are enjoying it.

Funkylights · 08/02/2026 12:23

Can anyone advise any key differences between the two? My DC is AuADHD and I’m concerned about support structure. Doesn’t need major adjustments but does need some / support. I’m very torn on both Xav / Loreto

Hi, my dd ended up choosing loreto and shes in y13 now. Take into account xaverian is much smaller, loreto is massive now with the new building. Loretos sen support is quite good, theres a dedicated SEN study space in the library, counselling available and teachers are mainly very supportive. Also is your dc street smart? Xaverian is located on wilmslow road, which can be a bit of a dodgy area, especially on days where they end later

Thx! Didn’t realise there was much difference in size. Yes - generally ok street smart wise as we only live 20 min in bus from Xav and used to going into town on bus / tram etc with mates: sometimes afterschool getting back 9 ish.
I just think DC might be better with access to the Loreto support services if needs it.

PinkChaires · 08/02/2026 18:13

I think i overestimated the difference, xaverian seems to be about 3000 whilst loreto is just over 4000

My AuDHD dc is now at Xav, they are really supportive. The ALS team are very responsive to emails and have put in place a weekly 1:1 session to help my dc with study skills etc.

Funkylights · 08/02/2026 22:58

Thankyou @barleycornthat’s very reassuring. Their info mentions support much less than Loreto etc
