DS going into Y13...Maths and Statistics

He's decided he'd like to study Maths and Statistics at Uni.

His mock grades were A, B and C.
Film Studies, Maths and Physics in that order.

A couple of questions:

  1. Looking at his grades, which universities would be good bets?
  1. What type of career might this degree lead to?
  1. Will he still stand a chance of doing this degree as he isn't doing FM A level?

If his best grade is film studies is there a reason he’s not considering something in that area instead?

He will be able to get to university to study maths and statistics, but not a top end university based on those grades.

Yes you can study maths at uni without FM. Not at the top unis for maths tho - but then with a B in maths those unis are unlikely anyway.

I would take a look at unis that are less popular like Leicester, Keele, UEA, Kent (rather than Warwick, Bath, Sheffield, Leeds) and some 1992 unis like Nottingham Trent, Leeds Becket, Sheffield Hallam. They are unlikely to specify FM (just glanced at a couple and they didn't) and are all great places to study, depending on whether you prefer city or campus and what location.
