Year 12 Work Experience - Engineering, computer/data science or maths

Dear All, My son has just come home from sixth form college and told me the organisation where he was due to start his work experience on July 8th for a week has cancelled his placement due to internal restructuring! I know this a long shot and very short notice (however I also know Mumsnetters are AMAZING!) .... I was therefore wondering if you know of any Year 12 work experience opportunities in ideally engineering or computer/data science starting on either on July 8th or during the school holidays? He is studying double maths, physics, computer science A Level and would like to study engineering at university. We live in the East of England and are happy to travel anywhere in the UK.

Any assistance would be very much appreciated. In an ideal world the placement would be in person however I appreciate it is now very close to the start date and any online opportunities would also be welcome. Thank you

I assume college can't point him towards anywhere?
Would he consider doing a week somewhere in the school holidays?
I'm so far away from you I'm not sure anywhere I suggest will work, but search for "careers opportunities in engineering" near me.
Several are running (that I know of) round here.

Ah, that's a shame, good luck to him in his search!

But if he doesn't find anything - while obviously it's great if they can get some work experience at this stage, they don't need it for even the most competitive unis. My dd didn't do any and had 5/5 offers for engineering inc Cambridge. She did do projects at home - I think engineering and computing is more possible for them to do something 'real' by themselves than other fields.

Many thanks for the replies everyone. Double Peonies - we are happy to travel to anywhere in the UK - there's only me and my son, my work is flexible and I can complete it anywhere so long as I book accomodation with wi-fi and tbh it would be a bit of an adventure and a first being away from home during term time :) PuddingtonPuddington - Springpod looks great. Ideally he would like in person however now I am thinking maybe we could go away for a week and he could do this while we are away. ErrolTheDragon - thank you - that's reassuring. BTW I way I love everyone's usernames :) In comparison mine is quite dull :)))

Sorry, forgot to say, that he could do work experience for a week or two over the summer holidays if he doesn't get anything lined up for w/c July 8th.
