All welcome as our young people head in to their last full term before the summer exams. Between UCAS applications, receiving offers/rejections, learning to drive and taking driving tests, revising for mocks and sitting them the pace hasn’t let up for our DC.

This thread has been a lovely supportive and immensely helpful place to talk as we guide our DC’s through this challenging time!

I had a ‘cold’ last week. Turned out to be covid.

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 20/06/2024 16:08

Have an amazing time @Penguinsa

DS doesn't finish until Monday but it really does feel like he's coming to the end now. He hasn't got much planned for the summer, collapsing in a heap and playing computer games I think. I looked back on my memories of 2022 and he finished his GCSE papers on the 24th June back then as well!

WombatChocolate · 20/06/2024 16:31

And just like that…….it’s all over. Phew! That’s a relief and possibly a bit of an anti climax too for DS. Think it will dawn on him properly in next couple of days.

We have had cream cakes and are going out for dinner tonight to celebrate. Tomorrow, some are gathering in the day and then all going out tomorrow night as everyone will be finished.

Book return is next week and then the next time in school will be results day, I assume.

Summer Ball is next Fri.

Think a proper clear-up/out might not happen for a few days, but big piles have been growing outside the bedroom door as each exam passes.

Holiday away in the Uk with 8 friends. Sounds quite tame, but DS is in a bit of a nerd herd - really lovely friends and I know they will love it.

Whatever happens, can’t fault DS’s efforts. I’m so proud of his approach to 6th form and revising.

Hope all your DC enjoy their well-deserved celebrations and there’s time for some family celebrations too - it’s an achievement for us parents too and I think we all need a glass or two.

MirandaWest · 20/06/2024 18:36

DD has finally made her accommodation application for Bristol. Am hoping she gets one of the ones she would prefer. Think she had put it off as it not being Oxford is still a bit painful.

She's going out with various friends this evening as all her close friends have now finished.

space99 · 20/06/2024 18:39

Jealous of those of you off on exotic holidays. No holiday for me until October sadly.
DS was pleased with Edexcel maths paper 3 and has gone out with friends to celebrate end of exams. He is off on holiday on Tuesday with his best friend and very excited.
I am watching the England game whilst removing staples from all his school work and past papers so I can put into the recycling tonight. Glamorous life for sure.
I assume all DC finish tomorrow if they haven't already done so? Good luck to those with chemistry tomorrow.

space99 · 20/06/2024 18:41

Oh gosh your poor DS @IThinkIMadeItWorse Which exam is on Monday?

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 20/06/2024 19:14

@space99 he has STEP 3 on Monday morning, three hours of extra hard maths. He says he enjoyed STEP 2 so I don't think he minds too much. His own fault for wanting to go to Cambridge.

space99 · 20/06/2024 19:34

Ahhh well all the best to your DS for Monday. I didn’t realise the STEP exams were during A-levels. Always assumed it was an exam done before you got offered a place.

Pleasealexa · 20/06/2024 19:57

@IThinkIMadeItWorse all credit your ds. STEP is super hard and made worse by the floating boundaries so you could do great but just not make the cut.

Where is his Insurance?

Pleasealexa · 20/06/2024 20:04

Ds thought maths was good...kinda now hoping he didn't miss any questions as he said he had time left over. The expectation is for him to do well and his experienced Head of Maths said she would bet me £100 that he will reach his predicted. I have illogical mum worry...because what can I do??

Chem @ FM tomorrow then summer starts. Im acting if I'm on holiday from tomorrow but not for another month.

Borneo sounds fantastic. Bon voyage.

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 20/06/2024 20:05

@Pleasealexa Warwick - so let's hope his exams have gone as well as he thinks they have! He wanted to put down somewhere he would be happy to go to as 50% of Cambridge maths offer holders don't make the cut.

TenSheds · 20/06/2024 20:48

The Cambridge STEP approach seems so cruel, good luck to him @IThinkIMadeItWorse and any others in the same position.
Have a wonderful time everyone off to adventure overseas. DD's jetting off with friends to Mallorca next week, but no holidays planned for us. Just a week of worry(!) and testing out what our empty nest will feel like.

Mumski45 · 20/06/2024 21:09

DS was happy with M3 today. Made some small mistakes on stats but mechanics was good and thinks he has a good chance of getting what he needs. Last 2 tomorrow then prom in the evening. Busy weekend as off to spam on Monday so hopefully not too much of an anticlimax.

Good luck to those doing STEP. DS considered it but decided it would be too much on top of A levels.

Fingers crossed he has done enough for 1st choice but if not he has a great insurance offer so not the end of the world.

Mumski45 · 20/06/2024 21:09

Spam🤷‍♀️ should be Japan

ShanghaiDiva · 20/06/2024 22:12

Dd thought maths was fine today and it’s her final exam tomorrow!

QueenMabby · 20/06/2024 22:25

DS likewise happy with maths 3 today. One exam left and it's the shortest one - only 90 mins! Come 10.30 tomorrow it'll all be over! Ds plans to come home and sleep for a few hours before going out with his friends.

Aardvarksforall · 21/06/2024 08:02

Happy holidays all. DC finished 10 days ago but their friends finish today! So in the intervening days they've slept a lot. Celebrating starts today, and we're away most of July. I'm going to enjoy their company (they are very good company) before they go to college in September. Trying to forget about Results Day.

Mumski45 · 21/06/2024 08:21

Good luck to all of you with DC finishing today. So proud of DS1 keeping the momentum going to the last minute. He has worked so hard as I'm sure they all have.

QueenMabby · 21/06/2024 10:44

DS is Home. Said chem 3 ok but he's full up with cold, feeling poorly and not sure he's done it justice. Definitely blanked on the last 6 mark question. Thinks only 2 marks on that. Aiming for an A. It's such a shame for him as he's worked so hard. Fingers crossed he's done enough in the other papers that he can weather this one a bit. He's going to bed now.

MrsAvocet · 21/06/2024 11:18

Hope all went well for the chemists, and good luck to anyone with anything still to go.
I'd like to thank @Rollergirl11 for starting this thread many moons ago and everyone for contributing. I haven't been the most prolific poster but have found this a lovely kind and helpful group of people and I wish everyone and their DC's the very best for whatever comes next.

space99 · 21/06/2024 14:43

Ahhh well said @MrsAvocet I totally agree. Thanks @Rollergirl11
Hope your DS feels better soon @QueenMabby

MrsScrubbingbrush · 21/06/2024 14:59

That's it...it's over and done with Smile

Both DDs are off to Westfield, shopping for their holidays and then meeting up with friends in the pub to celebrate!

Lightsabre · 21/06/2024 17:17

Well it's been a hard old slog but ds finally done. He was really nervous this morning about Chemistry but it went ok. Now out with friends celebrating and gym later. I have a mini bottle of champagne (which ds won't drink) to celebrate. Itching to get stuck into the piles of papers strewn everywhere.
All books returned too and I managed a last day at school photo even. All happy that the exams are over and off on our bucket list trip on Sunday.
We still have uni accommodation and student finance to sort out.

ShanghaiDiva · 21/06/2024 17:26

All finished here too! Will be glad to have the spare room back, although still covered in past papers at the moment. Dd is at her boyfriend’s this weekend so dh and I going away.

Lightsabre · 21/06/2024 17:27

Hopefully we can have a part 3 Yr 13 thread to continue the chat. Hope all of your dc enjoy the end of exam and school celebrations whatever they were taking.
