All welcome as our young people head in to their last full term before the summer exams. Between UCAS applications, receiving offers/rejections, learning to drive and taking driving tests, revising for mocks and sitting them the pace hasn’t let up for our DC.

This thread has been a lovely supportive and immensely helpful place to talk as we guide our DC’s through this challenging time!

Hope the holiday goes well Lego sorry 3 of them have had things taken.

Just the one left on 20th here but DD already seems on holiday mode talking of the giant cake she's going to make for school friends and also was doing punting tours for May Ball fireworks tonight, just got in. She took DH out for Father's Day to a restaurant. She's off to Kefalonia with her boyfriend soon.

legosnowqueen · 18/06/2024 06:20

@Penguinsa thank you. Best of luck for the final exam.

@Rollergirl11 @GreatWorldAtlas @MrsAvocet amazing to have them done, end of an era! Now onto the fabulous long summer...

QueenMabby · 18/06/2024 07:35

So lucky all those that have finished already! Hope they're having a deserving relax.

Best of luck for Chem 2 this morning. Organic is DS's bête noire so he's not looking forward to it.

Rollergirl11 · 18/06/2024 08:36

Thanks for the heads up about party packages @legosnowqueen. DD has booked the party packages for both Malia and Aiya Napa. I’m not sure if she is expecting drinks to be included or not.

Is your DS good at keeping in contact? Sorry to hear some of them have had belongings stolen. I read some real horror stories/reviews for self catering accommodation in Zante when DD and her 5 friends were booking their holiday. Young people were being accused of criminal damage when they were checking out and being forced to pay €200 by the hotel staff or they would keep hold of their passports and they would miss their flights home. It really scared DD and put them off going to Zante. Fingers crossed nothing untoward happens when they go in a few weeks. She is going to Aiya Napa with her boyfriend and he’s 20 so not worried about that holiday as much as I am her girls holiday!

Good luck to everyone with chemistry today!

Lightsabre · 18/06/2024 09:21

Ds also has Chemistry today. He didn't find the Physics paper easy yesterday so is nervous for the Chemistry papers as he needs an A star. Fingers crossed it goes well for everyone.

Great to hear about post exam plans and hope your ds has a good time @legosnowqueen. We are heading off at the weekend for a bucket list trip so this is a busy week.

Pleasealexa · 18/06/2024 11:36

@Lightsabre I think Physics had some tough questions. One of ds's friends thought he had nailed it but when he spoke to others afterwards he realised he might not have answered correctly. He went from being happy to depressed! Ds thought it was "ok" but he's aware it's boundary dependant. He needs an A*

Chem today and day off tomorrow then 5 (3 for Maths) more papers until the end

QueenMabby · 18/06/2024 11:40

DS thought chem was ok. He reckons he's done enough that this paper won't pull him down too badly (it's his least good!). He's shattered though. 2 more left.

MrsAvocet · 18/06/2024 12:13

PE finished with today and DS seems happy. Paper 3 is only an hour but there's quite a lot to get through and DS isn't a very fast writer so he sometimes struggles to finish. But he says he managed ok today. No books to go back though - apparently I bought them, though I don't remember that!
Day off tomorrow and then just maths on Thursday. Quite a lot of his friends are doing Chemistry though so they're all planning a night out for Friday.

Pleasealexa · 18/06/2024 12:34

@QueenMabby Same. Ds knows he lost marks on the paper but is OK with it. Finish line in sight but still Chem, Maths & FM hurdles. Ds is feeling envious of the students who can chill at school...some are turning up just to hang out with friends/eat lunch/do end of school paperwork. Most of the students have been at the school for 7 years so there is a recognition that it's the end of an era.

Mumski45 · 18/06/2024 12:40

@Lightsabre enjoy your bucket list trip. We have a similar trip planned. Feels like the end of era as although DS 2 staying on to do A levels he is more independent than DS1 and I think this will be our last holiday together for a very long time.

Good luck to all those still going and to everyone for results day.

Lightsabre · 18/06/2024 13:07

Thanks @Mumski, pkeased to hear Chemistry and other papers have gone well. Ds said it was 'ok' which I now think means he's reasonably happy with it. I thought the Physics paper may have knocked his confidence. Two more to go, FM and Chem 3.

Hope all the dc who have finished are having a well deserved rest. I can understand the poignancy too of finishing school forever. I remember being excited but sad too all those years ago.

ShanghaiDiva · 18/06/2024 16:18

Dd was happy with chemistry. Four more to go

MrsScrubbingbrush · 19/06/2024 15:04

DD2 had last exam today (French) so took her out for a lovely celebratory lunch.

DD1 is still sitting her Biology 3 paper (clashed with French this morning) and has Chemistry 3 on Friday.

Can see the light at the end of the tunnel at last!

TenSheds · 19/06/2024 18:15

All done here too at last, with the lovely long summer ahead for exhausted teens and parents to breathe and recover.

ShanghaiDiva · 19/06/2024 20:54

At last we are 2 a levels down and 2 to go. Roll on Friday!

MrsAvocet · 20/06/2024 12:16

Just dropped DS off for his last exam. No maths books to return as apparently I bought them too. This room clearing thing isn't going too well! 😂
I felt quite sad dropping him off. It's 15 years since my eldest started at the school and I have had one or more children there continuously since then and it seems weird that this is the very last day anyone will walk out of our house in that uniform. DS wouldn't pose for a picture but I shall try and get one when I pick him up - I feel that it's a day that needs to be recorded! Hope he remembers to pick his spare EpiPens up from the office. I asked him what his plans are for tomorrow. Apparently he's going climbing with a couple of friends in the morning and then they are picking the Chemistry crew up after their exam and "going out" - not sure what that will entail!

QueenMabby · 20/06/2024 13:04

Yup. Da drove himself in. Good luck to all Maths 3 students this afternoon!

DS has chem 3 tomorrow. No clue what his plans are afterwards though.

Investinmyself · 20/06/2024 13:22

Mine finally finished today been a long month. Her dad managed to get her to pose for a last day in school uniform photo.

Penguinsa · 20/06/2024 14:36

Good luck for final exams everyone and well done to those finished. DD in last one now and missed bus so DH rushed her there but all fine. DD and I are off to Borneo tonight to see the orangutans, probiscis monkeys, sun bears etc and then shortly after she's back she's off to Kefalonia with her boyfriend. Borneo was booked originally in 2019 for 2020 then not possible with covid 2020 and 2021, with cancer 2022, but DD and I get to do it now.

MrsAvocet · 20/06/2024 14:48

Sounds wonderful @Penguinsa
Enjoy your long awaited and much deserved adventure!

QueenMabby · 20/06/2024 15:14

@Penguinsa - that sounds like a wonderful trip - and will be all the sweeter for the wait I'm sure. Hope you and dd have a fantastic time.

Lassi · 20/06/2024 15:18

Have a great trip to Borneo @Penguinsa
DC finished a few days ago but their friends finish today so they are off the pub to watch the England game. To be honest they have been on their knees since they finished although they have applied for loads of jobs. My older DC has finished uni and is completely burned out. It’s been a tough few days but we will recover.

SooperOuting · 20/06/2024 15:34

Borneo sounds wonderful @Penguinsa - and must be such a relief to be finally going after all the waiting. Hope you have a fantastic time.

We are off to the Far East next week but trying to get away from work, ailing mother and other demands is proving super stressful. DD at least is finally chill, DS is away on the first of his 4 holidays and we are convening at 5 to watch the footy with cocktails and dips. Finally starting to feel like summer!

Congrats to all those that have made it through and for those that have one day left - it’s nearly over!

MirandaWest · 20/06/2024 15:52

DD has a cold.
