Hi
we recently moved into the area and my son is doing GCSE’s next year. He’s currently in a private school but looking at both for ALevels. He’s mid range, sporty and prob looking at Sports/Sciences for Uni.
Any tips on nice 6th forms, he’s quite reserved.
thanks 🫶

Are you looking for independent schools? There are coaches from Bickley/Bromley to Colfes, Eltham College and the Dulwich schools. Farrington's in Chislehurst is less selective and has good pastoral care.

The grammars also have sixth forms Chislehurst and Sidcup grammar has a good sixth form but I'm not sure what the minimum entry requirements might be.

Thanks for the reply - he's currently at Colfes, and yes we are looking at the ones further afield - I just don't know the area that well, so wondered if there were any good local ones that we should look at. We are not too fussed whether it's independent or not - just tips on which ones people would recommend and maybe had experience of - good pastoral care and a friendly environment are a must.
Will take a peak at Farringtons, thank you.

My 3 DC went to Eltham for 6th form, and we were very happy with it.

Having said that, my middle DC is the most reserved of the 3, and the one who did the least well of them. (Socially, I mean - was fine academically.)

Thanks Hardcore - yes it's finding a good balance of sport and not too 'alpha male' - it's proving a struggle

Not sure about the distance but Langley Boys may be an option. It's a co-ed 6th form and DD moved from the girls over for Y12 and she is so far happy with the way the general feeling is.
It's around 2/3 boys to 1/3 girls.

Or Langley Girls, again co-ed for 6th form.

Newstead Grammar in Orpington has a co-ed 6th form. It may depend on his grades but worth looking as well.

Thank you - I just had a quick look and that certainly looks like somewhere we should visit : )

If you have any questions @Petran about Newstead Wood then do ask, my DD attended for 7 years. There is a nice mix who join at sixth form from other schools both state and independent, but it is quite competitive as a fair number from Y11 will progress to sixth form, but some will also go elsewhere. It is more nurturing than Olaves (this is from DD's friends who left to go to Olaves sixth form and regretted it!). They have an amazing array of subjects too that you might not find in some sixth forms, the PPE department is one example and the number taking maths is high and one of the most popular subjects.
