Suggest you research entry requirements for some university courses or apprenticeships he may be interested in. E.g computer science, computer systems engineering. Many will ask for maths A level, some may want physics or another science. A few won't accept any technical subjects even for engineering. Seems ok to me although would possibly swap physics for computer science.
