6th form changing uniform

Would you be happy if your school introduced a new uniform from the beginning of year 13? This is labelled as a cost saving exercise as all branded items are being removed however none of the current uniform can be worn from Sept.
Eldest has uniform which is in excellent condition and would have lasted until the end of year 13. Why should we have to fork out for a complete new uniform? Surely this goes against their cost saving exercise plan?!

That seems very unreasonable ( also very odd that sixth formers wear uniform full stop. None of the schools or colleges seem to around here seem to.)

PuttingDownRoots · 17/03/2023 14:48

I would expect a transition period for any uniform change.

Panicmode1 · 17/03/2023 14:49

Are they even allowed to do that under the new uniform code?

Our school is introducing a new uniform component from Sept, but they are allowing a 2 Yr transition. Seems utterly unreasonable to ask you to buy a new uniform for Y13...(unless it was something they could wear afterwards like a suit).

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 17/03/2023 14:50

yes the transisition period should be what remains of this school year and the whole of next school year

ShrinkingIngrate · 17/03/2023 14:51

We had this and complained that the Year 13s should be excused.

Parent power worked. 👍🏼

TeenDivided · 17/03/2023 14:53

There should be a warning period of a year, then a further year until it is compulsory, except for the new y7s.

StepHigh · 17/03/2023 14:54

Our school lets you wear the old stuff until you grow/wear out. Could you ask for that? It's hardly cost saving if you have to chuck out perfectly good stuff.

Comefromaway · 17/03/2023 14:56

When ds's old school changed its uniform there was a 2 year transition period.

Hillarious · 30/03/2023 14:12

Bonkers. At our secondary school, the children were allowed to wear any of the old versions of the uniform, and there was kudos to be had for wearing a ragged old black sweatshirt rather than the brand new navy sweatshirt.

TizerorFizz · 31/03/2023 09:14

Well I guess this school do not want to see ragged old sweatshirts. I don’t entirely blame them for this but there should be a notice period. Is this a move to a strict regime? Can you complain and get a grace period for a year? I’m surprised y13 wears what other years wear. Do they not get any choice?

W0tnow · 13/04/2023 07:27

I’ve had this experience with 2 schools and there was always a grace period of a year.
