DD is doing 3 essay heavy A-level subjects and is struggling to find the perfect pen! I’ve bought her quite a few, ranging from Poundland to Cross, but she’s still in search of ‘the one’ Smile

Please could you let me know all of your favourites?

I love Pentel EnerGel pens, beautifully smooth and I buy refills. My sons use Bic crystal, Bic comfort and Bic crystal grip. They have also had other cheap ones, freebies from hotels we have stayed in etc. They have several types as they swap them out in exams so their fingers hurt less when writing.

Maybe the Pilot Frixion ones? They're handy because you can rub out mistakes.

I prefer a fountain pen, but don't mind those because they don't drag the way some biros do. I'd also use Staedtler fineliners.

Bic quadcolours pen 🖊 the only one I love as it is a good barrel and weight to it ❤️

When my daughter was doing 3 heavy essay A-Levels I bought her a rubber pen grip pack and she slid those onto regular pens. They were super cheap on Amazon

I like frixxion pens & my daughter & DH love uniball

Lamy Safari fountain pen, with a left-hand nib. It's quite chunky and is better for my damaged neck/shoulder than a thin one. They do other types of pen, too.

Dontcallmejacqui · 14/04/2022 03:26

Agree with Lamy recommendation. They make great pens. I have a fine nibbed fountain pen by them.
But also a vote for BIC four colour biros. They're reliable and chunky and reassuring

Thanks everyone, we’ll give those a try. Swapping pens during exams is a great idea too, I’ll get her to try that!

DD uses uniball. DD1 used stabilo.

Frixion are no good for exams because when the papers are scanned the heat can make the ink disappear.

Revengeofthepangolins · 15/04/2022 10:32

Another lamy safari fan here, medium nib to have good flow (I also like their italic nib but that may be a bit niche)

Papermate Inkjoy are a dream to write with. They just flow over the paper. Good old Bic Cristal are also good. I find the cheap own brnad ones jusr aren't as good. Make sure they aren't using the Frixion pens for exams as I don't think they are allowed.
