AS level in autumn

Can anyone help with this? DS is in Yr 12 and studying 4 A levels including Government and Politics. He doesn't particularly enjoy it, finds it hard and would like to finish it at the end of the year and just sit it as AS level rather than carry on.

Problem is, he's decided this too late for the deadline for AS applications (at his school, at least). What are his options?

There is no Autumn exam series for AS levels in a normal year.
2020 and 2021 were a special arrangement due to Covid.
I would just drop the subject. University offers are only based on the results for 3 subjects anyway.
