previous thread

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

Welcome Kiwi
Congrats on the offer Anne

Hmmm lemon drizzle….I really need to make that - always meant to but never have tried. We are egg free due to allergies so I’d need to veganise it

Heifer · 19/01/2022 17:44

Just read another useful hint from WIWIKAU - re booking accommodation at Nottingham. Don't forget to firm your offer a a few days before 1st March to ensure you are registered to apply for accommodation as it takes 48 hrs usually for info to come through...

Decorhate · 19/01/2022 18:02

@Heifer I still use Mars’ recipe! As does my son!

Decorhate · 19/01/2022 18:06

@Piggywaspushed @Fiddlersgreen Ds claims he has had nothing about offer holder days from Sheffield either. I’d love if Leeds & Sheffield ran some over half term so we could visit both in one go. It’s likely they will be his firm & insurance

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 19/01/2022 18:19

What is WIWIKAU?

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 19/01/2022 18:22

Hello @kiwiandcherries and welcome!

Monkey2001 · 19/01/2022 18:50

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn

What is WIWIKAU?
WhatIWishIKnewAboutUniversity. On FB and they have their own website.

Re lemon drizzle, I agree that it is about using caster sugar which had not fully dissolved. Cake shouldn't be too hot when you put it on of you don't want it to soak in.

EwwSprouts · 19/01/2022 19:00

Welcome @kiwiandcherries!

We've had online parents' evening. 5 minutes is so short though we did get on to pizza toppings with the maths teacher?!! Was lovely to hear the year 10s think he is a great prefect. Obviously I think he's lovely but he's not the most extrovert.

kiwiandcherries · 19/01/2022 19:15

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn

What is WIWIKAU?
It stands for What I wish I knew about university- they have a website and Facebook group with lots of good advice on.

Thanks for all the welcome messages!

kiwiandcherries · 19/01/2022 19:16

Oh, just noticed that someone had already answered. Sorry!

Isthisjustnormal · 19/01/2022 19:16

Welcome @kiwiandcherries, and ahhhh, mars' lemon drizzle recipe! I don't know if I still have it although it was my staple when the kids for little! @Heifer fancy posting it for me??

icanbewhatiwant · 19/01/2022 19:23

Yes...don't dissolve the sugar completely before pouring on lemon drizzle cake 😋

BlueMarigold · 19/01/2022 19:24

Welcome @kiwiandcherries Smile

Isthisjustnormal · 19/01/2022 19:25

Oh, and (knowing this is a safe space to show off ;-) DS got his Bebras results today (comp sci competition) - gold, so invited through to the next round - usually at Oxford Uni but I assume excitingly online this year...

cariadambyth · 19/01/2022 19:32

@isthis, what a fantastic achievement. You are not showing off, you are sharing wonderful news with people who care and want to hear it. Congratulations.

Piggywaspushed · 19/01/2022 19:38

That's fab, isthis. Bravo!

ChristopherTracy · 19/01/2022 19:46

ealingwestmum · 19/01/2022 19:57

Fabulous Isthisjustnormal. And very timely ahead of Tuesday…best of luck to him next week.

Fonty · 19/01/2022 20:33

Hello @kiwiandcherries
Amazing news @Isthisjustnormal! That’s a brilliant achievement. Fingers crossed for next week

Isthisjustnormal · 19/01/2022 20:39

Awww, thanks all. His approach to next week is ‘when I get my rejection next week .. ’ which seems very healthy and sensible to me!

OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 19/01/2022 20:48

Hello @kiwiandcherries!

Welcome to kiwi and congrats to isthis DS, a great achievement!

OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 19/01/2022 20:53

Dd just got an offer through from RHUfir their BMus...BBB and they are guaranteeing entry with a dropped grade. Their offer range starts from AAB,so we are pleased...especially as they are so well respected for ethnomusicology. Some decisions to be made/considerations to be had...after the auditions for the top choices happen (Soton and Cardiff).

crazycrofter · 19/01/2022 20:57

Well done to your ds @Isthisjustnormal and your dd @OrangeCinnamonCocktail, that’s a morale boost for both of them ahead of hearing from their top choices

Welcome @kiwiandcherries!

Wheresthebeach · 19/01/2022 21:11
