Thread 26 - Covid Cohort Hoping for a Stable, Successful 2022

previous thread

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

Such wonderful news. Well done to our Oxford trio!

Alsoplayspiccolo · 11/01/2022 15:11

Woweeeeeeee!!
Congratulations to all the Oxford stars! Proggy, Horace and Sandy, you must be chuffed to bits and hugely relieved.

How are you doing, Volterra? FlowersFlowers

SandyBayley · 11/01/2022 15:11

Thanks @Delphigirl - I keep an eye on this thread and everyone's progress but can't keep up. Really delighted for DD and still in a state of shock. Bizarre to have just one offer so far and it to be from Oxford 😮

SandyBayley · 11/01/2022 15:13

DD's offer is 39 as well - with 766 in HLs. Not eye watering in the way that DS1's was (2 x A star plus A).

ChristopherTracy · 11/01/2022 15:34

Congrats all! marvellous news!

Volterra · 11/01/2022 15:55

Great news *Sandybayley"!!!
I'm ok thanks. Loving the good news on here, so great to see life going on if that makes sense.

ProggyMat · 11/01/2022 16:23

Thanks again folks!
I’m still high- probs due to the lack of sleep last night and what seemed like a lengthy wait this morning.
Now we have our Corona Cohort Oxford gang over the offer hurdle I’m keeping everything firmly crossed for the Cambridge gang!
A special thank you to @Volterra - it makes perfect sense to me Smile

Seeline · 11/01/2022 16:36

Wow - full house! Congratulations Sandy !

Piggywaspushed · 11/01/2022 16:40

Oh, this is a high hit rate for Oxbidgers! Fab news.

EwwSprouts · 11/01/2022 17:09

Thrilled to come on and see all the fabulous offers! Congratulations to the clearly exceptional DC of Proggy, Horace and SandyB. I am literally grinning for you all.

icanbewhatiwant · 11/01/2022 17:48

Well done on all the offers.

Just had our online parent consultation. All good. The history teacher told me they haven't released the summer exam dates yet. I know they have, I just looked online at AQA history A level dates. A teacher gave me 3 dates for RS. ethics and philosophy papers. They are all 2 weeks apart. First exam should be history on 26th May if I have the dates correct. Last exam 28th June. I'm sure they will be upon us quickly.

Nard75 · 11/01/2022 17:52

Well done on the Oxford offers great to see our DC doing so well.

Decorhate · 11/01/2022 18:05

Just popping in to add my congratulations to all those who received Oxford offers! Well done on a fantastic achievement.

Ds school wrote to parents today about the fact that some unis/courses are being slower than usual to make offers this year & to try not to let our kids get too stressed about it. I saw someone on that FB page saying her son had his first response & it was a rejection from one of his safe choices... Tbh Ds is not too fussed now about hearing from his last two. He is pretty decided on firming Leeds & Bristol & Manchester would be no good as insurance choices.

DoggerelBank · 11/01/2022 18:17

Wow! Wonderful news for the Oxford gang.

OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 11/01/2022 18:29

Loving 'Oxford Trio' Grin

I wonder if Unis will be waiting for some of the Oxbridge lot to get offers before they send out there's?

@PaddingtonPaddington is there an earlier deadline for conservatoire places too?

Really pleased that our thread ox-trio all got in!

AnneOfCleavage · 11/01/2022 18:46

Thanks for the train info Monkey.

Huge congratulations to Proggy's DD, Horace's DS and Sandybayley's DD. That is stupendous news today. Enjoy celebrating tonight.

DD's interview went well despite the weather being wet and foggy. DH and I killed time in town looking round the cathedral, having afternoon tea and shopping. She feels it went well and was in a nice group interview as well as her own 1-1 and the tests in English and Maths went okay despite not doing either since March 2020. Think she could hear either way in a week.
Next one tomorrow then that's it for this week - phew.

Fiddlersgreen · 11/01/2022 18:54

Oh congrats @SandyBayley too! This is wonderful!

PaddingtonPaddington · 11/01/2022 19:44

Wow congratulations on the Oxford offers @SandyBayley, @ProggyMat and @Horace123. I’m genuinely thrilled for you and your DC!

@OrangeCinnamonCocktail for conservatoires the deadline for applications was 1 Oct and if all offers are received by 3 Jan you have to accept decline by 2 Feb. Late applications can still be made but no guarantees.

sazzy5 · 11/01/2022 20:14

So sorry for your loss @Volterra.

Wow congratulations to the 3 DC getting in to Oxford, amazing achievement.

icanbewhatiwant · 11/01/2022 21:21

I just said to Ds as he walked past from the kitchen to the stairs (which is the only time I see him when he leaves his room to eat) I said...I wonder when the other offers will come in. He said I've got them all. I said you never told me. Why would I? came the reply 🙈

Isthisjustnormal · 11/01/2022 21:30

Oooh, a huge WHOOP for the Oxford trio of @SandyBayley; @ProggyMat and @Horace123

Oh my gosh Hmm typical teen boy!! Well that’s great news! Is there a time limit to respond now he has them all or do I have that wrong?

Just discovered today that my DS didn’t know he had to choose 2 of the uni’s to accept offers from, wondered why I keep going on about visiting the uni’s/cities to help make decisions!
He thought that whatever grades he got would determine which uni he got in to! Confused

OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 11/01/2022 21:50

That is funny @Fiddlersgreen - so he would have just gone where he was told to based upon his results ? Grin
