previous thread

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

So sorry for your loss Flowers

Wheresthebeach · 10/01/2022 17:53

Volterra I'm so sorry to read your update. Glad you made it in time, and am thinking of you. Hugs.

Volterra · 10/01/2022 18:59

Thsnk you all so much . NHS been wonderful.

AnneOfCleavage · 10/01/2022 18:59

DD has just had some great news: Bristol UWE have given her an offer and it's a lower than they initially asked for (by one grade lower) so whatever she did in that interview was good. She is now feeling happier going into the next interview knowing she has her first offer in the bag. DD doesn't drink but DH and I are having a glass of wine to celebrate 🍷 on her behalf.

ealingwestmum · 10/01/2022 19:07

That is great news Anne. Sounds like a very tough interview process and she’s clearly done done very well, lovely offer.

ealingwestmum · 10/01/2022 19:09

I missed your earlier news Hatti re your DD’s rejections. Really hoping the remainder 2 come through on interview offers; Vet Med is such a challenging field, but rewarding I’m sure for those who succeed.

ExtremelyDetermined · 10/01/2022 19:24

I'm so sorry to hear your news @Volterra Flowers

Delphigirl · 10/01/2022 19:28

Wheresthebeach · 10/01/2022 20:28

Congrats to your DD @AnneOfCleavage. Impressed by the 'a glass of wine'. Very restrained....

OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 10/01/2022 20:31

Wheresthebeach ha ha well we have quite an early start so yes just the one glass 😂

Wheresthebeach · 10/01/2022 20:57

I bet nobody on this thread is doing dry January!

Hattifatteners · 10/01/2022 21:10

Thank you @ealing. Yes, vet med is tricky to get in at best of times and covid hasn't made it any easier. I hope she'll get at least one offer just for her self esteem if nothing else.

Monkey2001 · 10/01/2022 21:19

@Volterra so sorry to hear that, it must have come as a great shock as it was so sudden. Thoughts and best wishes coming from all over the country. xx

@Hattifatteners, eughhh, I know how it feels when the rejections come rolling in. But still 2 irons in the fire and the mantra of medics is that you only need 1!

@AnneOfCleavage wow, a full F2F day at this time feels very odd, but could be great. At least she can get a real feel for the place and the other people applying. Hope the Maths and English is not as bad as she fears it might be.

@Shimy our school did really well in 2019 Maths A level because the questions were so different from old papers that the students who were used to preparing by doing past papers had a shock, but the ones which understood the maths got on better. The grade boundaries were super low - 55% for an A, 72% for an A*.

EwwSprouts · 10/01/2022 21:30

@Volterra So sorry to hear you have lost your DDad. I hope there is a little comfort in having got there to see him and share a few moments. (Blimmin covid.) Be kind to yourself. Flowers

EwwSprouts · 10/01/2022 21:32

AnnofC An offer in hand hopefully takes the edge off the nerves. Fingers crossed she has a great day.

Seeline · 10/01/2022 21:54

Anne my DS is in his second year at UWE. He is based at the main Frenchay campus and has been happy there so far.

crazycrofter · 10/01/2022 22:00

I’m so sorry to hear your news @Volterra 😢Flowers, be kind to yourself and I hope you can take some time out.

@Hattifatteners poor dd, I hope she gets an offer soon.

Well done to your dd @AnneOfCleavage, she must have done well!

I’m wondering what’s wrong with ds at the moment, the last two days he’s fallen asleep really early (7 tonight with no tea) and just slept through. Very odd as he’s usually up til gone 11. The house seems quiet without the Xbox chat!

Fiddlersgreen · 10/01/2022 22:10

I’m so sorry for your loss @Volterra I’m glad you were able to be there Flowers
