This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

@shimy I know a couple of people doing maths, I think everyone thinks that it has been very hard.

@Shimy yes DS just back from maths mock said the Pure paper was very difficult and two of the question he had to go back to and his friends couldnt do.

Good luck with the mocks. It’s good that they’re getting a full experience now. Dd has just had shorter exams/1 paper only per subject so far (June, Oct and Dec). She told me she doesn’t want to do real exams because she’s not sure she can learn that amount of material! Her next mocks are end of Feb - I hope they’re ‘proper’ ones.

DD's school is doing between 2 and 3 papers per subject.
Week one of mocks is in class, week 2 is in the hall - which I think is a good thing. Mind you - I expect there will be more 'mocks' if exams cancelled. However, I think the Ed Minister said last week that they would go ahead...

Sorry Monkey I may have misconstrued what you meant but I should clarify that this is a face to face interview and includes Maths and English tests as well as 1-1 interviews and group interviews and group tasks and presentations. I'm sure there will be gaps for breaks etc - there will have to be yikes - but she's nervous being on campus for all that time. Her Bristol online interview last week was so lovely and relaxed and she had an hours break for lunch where she could chat to us etc but we won't be on site tomorrow. Can't even park there as no parking on site so it's the park and ride so we will have to walk around all that time killing time and it's looking wet and windy tomorrow 😟

My thought are with those who are having difficult times and sorry to hear for any positive test results.
DD had a rotten start for this week. Two rejections (Edinburgh and Liverpool post interview) first thing in the morning. And she has her big Chemistry mock today too .

@Hattifatteners oh no, poor DD and how hard for her to go into an exam after that. Does she have offers elsewhere?

I’ve just looked at Singing’s list and see she’s doing Vet applications so really tough stuff. Wishing her all the best with her other applications.

Delphi Winchester Uni. Was always her 1st choice but this is clouding her opinion. Bristol wasn't a true choice per se but she liked the look of the course and it wasn't too far so put it as her 5th option but they've been so organised and so kind and helpful that she has upped its position.

@Hattifatteners oh I’m so sorry to hear your ds’s news expecially if they were top choices. I’m rooting for him that he gets some other offers in soon. Apologies if he already has, (I’ve been off the thread for a few days and the thread fills up so quickly).

Even though ds2 is not doing maths, I’m always a little twitchy around news it was hard, ever since ds2 had an awful Maths paper (2019 cohort!) if anyone remembers. Students sobbing all over the place, then in desperation some students broke into a drawer (not. Ds’sschool and the paper was leaked...on Twitter! It was a mess.

Anyway, I’m hope this year goes very smoothly for them all and that the mocks being rigorous as it seems, would’ve prepared well for the real thing.
