Thread 23 Covid Cohort Stepping Into Christmas, Tests, Mocks & Interviews

OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 12/11/2021 18:33

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

No news here - congrats on everyone's offers, interviews and tats!

OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 23/11/2021 15:41

I think Dd would love nose ring and tats but probably wouldn't be brave enough to undertake the pain involved! Getting her ears pierced at 14 was a challenge for her!

Had a letter from college, three sets of mocks to be undertaken now. One set Jan and then one each before and after Easter. At least it is in normal revision time. I am getting worried about the inevitable clash with interviews/auditions. References still not done....

I agree that you can't stop DC from getting tattoos and piercings, but I am glad mine don't seem to want them, both a bit over-focussed on muscles for my tastes, DS2 shoes me horrific photos of champion body builders but tells me he could not look that without steroids, so I don't need to worry. He is definitely

Monkey2001 · 23/11/2021 15:44

..... aiming for more muscle than I would like, but there are many worse things he could be doing.

OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 23/11/2021 15:51

Oh Monkey...at least he is not saying he wants /needs steroids!

My Greyhound baby has tattoos in both ears!

@estherfrewen

Thanks *@ealingwestmum* - at least by Friday will know one way or the other I guess!

Re Christmas- have gone for pans for university and a big teddy armed cuddle cushion from Dunhelm again for uni bed. Aftershave and bits like that. Snowman board game. Some daft stuff. He is 18 in January and is getting expensive watch so Christmas is quite bitty.

I want to get Dd the teddy arm hug cushion thing...can you let me know if ok quality (I always think Dunelm is better than say B and M ). I sat in on a live crystal showing to choose two for Dd on Sunday. I can see why people get into them now !

Oh my Orange. So pleased that baby G has found such a lovely home to retire to!

BlueMarigold · 23/11/2021 16:06

Well done on the offers!

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn Is that the offer you were expecting from Birmingham? Do you know if they stack they grade reductions or can you only a maximum of a one grade reduction?

Heifer · 23/11/2021 17:14

This is one of my best buys for DD - she loves it - and actually lets me sit in it too on the monthly occassion I am allowed in her room to chat ;-)

OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 23/11/2021 17:55

@heifer looks good, I know Dd would love one on her bed!

20newnames · 23/11/2021 18:33

Thanks everyone. Congrats to everyone else with offers and interviews too!

Older DS has enormous tattoos and I hate them. Can be easily hidden with clothing though so haven’t told my parents. Must remind him to wear a t shirt when they next stay over!! They would be horrified.

DS who will soon be 18 has no interest whatsoever thankfully.

ZittiEBuoni · 23/11/2021 18:47

Heifer I'd like one of those.

Funnily enough, on our walk this morning dd and I passed a man with a heavily tattooed face! Looked awful and prompted me to say to dd that I wouldn't mind her getting a tattoo as long as it was below the neck.

Piggywaspushed · 23/11/2021 19:02

I sold on Ebay a load of old Guinness Books of Records to the world's most tattooed man. True fact.

ealingwestmum · 23/11/2021 19:10

What rock have I been stuck under? These pillow suggestions would have solved so many bedroom problems. Thanks Heifer!

ExcessiveIyDisorganised · 23/11/2021 19:36

I just had to google cuddle arm cushions but wow! I think both mine would like those. Great idea!

Heifer · 23/11/2021 19:41

Glad to help with suggestions. I saw them on WIWIKAU group last Christmas as people were buying them for their DD/DS to take to uni. I'm not sure if you need to spend £50 but tbh I didnt' fancy one of the cheaper ones and it was cheaper than another popular one from urban outfitters which i think was £80! - although just noticed on sale at the moment..Definitely been worth every penny for DD. I may well buy one for myself as I've noticed I've stopped reading since having reading glasses as I used to lie on my side but can't now (glasses slip against the pillow) - that's a good enough excuse for me ;-)

DD doesn't want to go to the Drs yet re acne as she thinks it will ease off in a few days... I can't say anything as I've avoided the doc myself recently when I really should have gone.

I'm a Celebrity has come back at a really bad time for DD - she loves it and usually comes down stairs to watch it with me. Unfortunately she still is despite Mocks being next week. I think (hope) she is revising now and will come down at 9.15 and then revise after - she is a very late to bed girl as doesn't seem to need much sleep (has never slept well).

Heifer · 23/11/2021 19:45

I've just remembered I picked the John Lewis one as seemed higher than the others and I liked the neck rest - perfit fit

Fruitygal · 23/11/2021 20:08

Can’t watch GBBO final as DD is out with a friend until 9.30pm ( and she’s driven) - so going to try and avoid social media Loving the reading cushion thing - I want one x

A couple of Oxford rejections and 5 Cambridge interview offers for DDs friends today. So lots of mixed emotions. Lots who have applied to Bristol have been put on ‘hold’ which they were getting stressed about.

estherfrewen · 23/11/2021 20:21

I like that John Lewis one! Dunelm one looks good but more teddyish I think than John Lewis. DS still very much likes soft toys ….. don’t tell him I told you! I know he will love it

whatsnext2 · 23/11/2021 20:30

Catching up

Hattifatteners · 23/11/2021 20:47

Congratulations for offers @JustHere, @Horace and @ProggyMat! Well done for @estherfrewen junior for the interview

Oblomov21 · 23/11/2021 20:50

Sorry to hear latest Zitti. Maybe school won't even say anything re attendance for ages and before you know it it'll be spring!

Love Heifers cushion. Cross its out of stock.

EwwSprouts · 23/11/2021 21:12

Great to hear of offers and interviews.

Loving the cuddly cushion.

@DoggerelBank St Andrews were clear on virtual session that for biology the admissions %s will be 50% Scottish, 30% International, 20% RUK. I suspect if predictions only match the requirements you will not get an offer, talk of wanting 'strong scientists'.

Heifer · 23/11/2021 21:39

@Oblomov21 - might be worth clicking on the notify me when back in stock as it also says If the item does not come back in stock we will notify you - which is handy.
