OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 12/11/2021 18:33

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

@icanbewhatiwant just ordering morphsuits for Christmas. Mr Incredible for DS1 (as apparently they both skip "Leg Day") and Spiderman for DS2 as he lived in a padded Spiderman suit when he was 4 and it will give him a great opportunity to flex his real muscles! Do you have and sizing advice? DS1 is 5'11 and DS2 6'1. Thanks!

Monkey2001 · 23/11/2021 21:42

@Oblomov21 I noticed they were in stock at several JL branches if you pass one often.

collywobble · 23/11/2021 21:47

DS has another offer through now from Loughborough for PPE . They had removed the original course he had applied for which was Politics and Economics which needed ABB and the new offer is AAB so we may be flying by the seat of our pants on this but he does have another offer at Lancaster for ABB.
He loved Loughborough when he looked around so he's happy and it's given him a good goal now to aim for .
Congratulations all round to others with offers in the bag already. Let the hard work begin !

Volterra · 23/11/2021 21:53

DS had first offer (Maths) from Bath - A*AA. Very pleased for him as TMUA results getting closer and he has to decide a couple more places to put on UCAS form.

crazycrofter · 23/11/2021 21:58

Good news @collywobble and @volterra! Dd was told today that she can’t just put 3/4 unis down and then add more later because the school are submitting them? That’s not right is it?

Volterra · 23/11/2021 22:01

I don’t think that’s right Crazycrofter. DS did 3 and if I understood correctly he just logs in and adds the other 2 when decided. College submitted his I think but am not totally sure.

Monkey2001 · 23/11/2021 22:02

@crazycrofter that is not right. She can add the others up to 26th Jan

Congratulations @Volterra and @collywobble

Heifer · 23/11/2021 22:03

@crazycrofter - school may have their own rules! (inflexible) I have an idea DDs school would be the same. They seem to submit them rather than us according to DD (not sure when/how we pay if this is true). We definitely haven't received anything to say that we submit and DD says that she has to sit with head of year to do it together..

Great news @Volterra & @collywobble.

Volterra · 23/11/2021 22:07

Great news Collywobble!

Monkey2001 · 23/11/2021 22:11

@Heifer when the student has completed their bit and pressed "pay and submit" it moves into the school account. The student can no longer edit it unless the school releases it to them. They add reference and predictions then send it in to UCAS and you get acknowledgements from UCAS and all the choices you have made.

icanbewhatiwant · 23/11/2021 22:13

@Monkey2001 great to hear you've bought morph suits. I don't think I can be of help about sizing as ds2 is 5'4 and 7 stone 😂 you can see by pic how scrawny he is. We bought the brand leezeshaw in 150-160 cm so only just long enough for him, but they are meant to be fitted, he thought the next size up would be baggy. So if your dc's are muscly they will probably want a size bigger than their actual height, unless they are the lower end of the height size.

I saw bake off mentioned. I enjoyed it. DH is away so watched mostly on my own. The dc's aren't interested. I won't say the winners name as people might watch on catch up. But I thought from early on this person would win.

icanbewhatiwant · 23/11/2021 22:14

@Monkey2001 that should say great to hear you are buying. Not bought.

ealingwestmum · 23/11/2021 22:23

Great news Volterra and collywobble!

OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 23/11/2021 22:32

@Piggywaspushed

I sold on Ebay a load of old Guinness Books of Records to the world's most tattooed man. True fact.
I'm intrigued to know if he emailed you to tell you the fact? Did he need them because he was in them?

Piggywaspushed · 23/11/2021 22:38

Yes, he told me when we emailed about postal costs. He was in Australia. It cost me more to send them than he paid me! He was indeed in all of them!

Piggywaspushed · 23/11/2021 22:39

I bought them all in the first place to track down the one DH is in!!

Fruitygal · 23/11/2021 22:40

@Volterra snd @collywobble congratulations 🎉 x

More details please!
ExcessiveIyDisorganised · 23/11/2021 23:22

@icanbewhatiwant I watched Bake-Off on my own. I had thought that the person who went home last week would win, but then the one who did win it. Your DS sounds to be exactly the same shape and size as mine!

Fruitygal · 23/11/2021 23:32

DD got in after nighttime driving to evening out with friend. Safe and sound so watched Bake off final - my favourite went out last week so my 2nd favourite won 🥇 so happy - DD loved bake off and much better than Love Island etc as only once per week.

Online parents evening coming up - DD summarised what teachers will say tonight over dinner - hysterically funny!! gets on really well with most of her teachers so there’s a lot of banter

Heifer · 24/11/2021 00:29

Thanks Monkey. DD is sitting down with her head of 6th form on Thursday to enter her info together and she thought that would be it.
Maybe it comes back to us after to pay.

She mentioned ages ago that she can see how long each teachers reference but can't read it so guessing it's alreaddy in the system, although I wonder if that is on Uni Frog or UCAS form.

Did anyone else's school use Uni Frog to write the PS?

@Piggywaspushed - you're teasing us! ;-) We know DH doesn't have the most tattoos so what did he do to get into the books?
Piggywaspushed · 24/11/2021 06:42

DH was in the GBOR for scoring the most goals in a football season (when he was 10!). It's something ridiculous like 150 goals.
