Thread 21 Corona Cohort - Nervous waiting, so frustrating

Monkey2001 · 09/10/2021 12:21

Continuation of OrangeCinnamonCocktail's threads

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

I think DD would love it if her Mocks were on Nov 31st - I meant 29th :-)

Delphigirl · 14/10/2021 16:24

DS has mocks next week (to finalise predictions for non oxbridge non medics etc). Only one paper per subject. Then the full mocks in Jan which are a replica of A levels in terms of number and timing of papers, invigilators, etc etc to give the full experience to this cohort who didn’t do GCSEs.

20newnames · 14/10/2021 16:24

DS hadn’t heard anything about mocks so I phoned school last week. They said they start on 28 Feb which is later than I would have thought but better than November.

Piggywaspushed · 14/10/2021 16:28

DS has just had assessments. No idea if there will be another set.

ealingwestmum · 14/10/2021 16:41

DD’s are straight after Feb half term. One set only.

Piggywaspushed · 14/10/2021 16:43

Ds says his next lot are January.

He has had economics back. Got a high B but the teacher moved the grade boundaries because they 'all did well'. So an A then?

He got an A* back for sociology.

EwwSprouts · 14/10/2021 16:46

DS's mocks are immediately before Feb half-term.

estherfrewen · 14/10/2021 16:48

Just one set here first week in December. Eek. Last ever parents evening tonight. Milestone!

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 14/10/2021 17:55

Thanks for the tag @Monkey2001, haven't caught up with everything, been a mad few weeks.

Ds had his driving test today, he didn't pass unfortunatey and is very sad about it. I've tried to re-book and, of course, no available test dates anywhere within a 50 mile radius. Another five months to wait for a retest? It's just ridiculous.

Nard75 · 14/10/2021 17:56

DS1 has his mocks straight after Christmas holidays. DS2 year 11 has his mocks just before Christmas holidays.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 14/10/2021 17:59

We haven't been told about mock dates yet. DS is trying to get his English coursework sorted at the moment, seems a lot of hard work - or he's just moany, one or the other.

Monkey2001 · 14/10/2021 17:59

Mocks after Christmas are horrible!

End of Feb here. Feels like 2022 is round the corner now - eek!

Just had strange email from Birmingham University asking DS to get school to email his predicted grades to the admissions office within a fortnight or his application will be cancelled! All his other places just sent thanks for applying emails so not sure what has happened to the Birmingham one. Bizarre.

Piggywaspushed · 14/10/2021 18:27

Odd!

estherfrewen · 14/10/2021 18:31

It’s not his favourite choice but that sent DS into a panicked tailspin until I said well all your other places have acknowledged application etc. It was the application will be withdrawn bit that blew his mind,

ealingwestmum · 14/10/2021 18:52

Sorry to hear about the test Justhere, it’s even more disappointing when they know the backlog to next.

DD has hers tomorrow. Been postponed twice, and she failed her mock with instructor yesterday. Not holding my breath but it’s all about what they’re up against on the day I guess.

estherfrewen · 14/10/2021 19:00

Sorry to here about the driving test @JustHereWithMyPopcorn. Best of luck to your DD for tomorrow @ealingwestmum. DS had a nightmare mock test but all went well on the day when he took it - just different road conditions and no cyclist cutting him up for the actual test!

Oblomov21 · 14/10/2021 19:00

Mocks 11th November here.

Monkey2001 · 14/10/2021 19:00

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn yes, bad luck on driving test. I haven't managed to get a proper instructor to top up the friends and family lessons - the one I had chosen said they don't do last minute preparation and it was over 2 months before the test, now 6 weeks away.

Good luck @ealingwestmum, hope she pulls it out of the bag, but failing a mock has probably knocked her confidence. Sad

Sorry to hear that Popcorn. Can you get an earlier re-test via one of the apps?

icanbewhatiwant · 14/10/2021 19:16

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn the apps for getting an earlier test worked well for Ds. That was back in April though. Might be worth a try. You need a test booked first though.

PaddingtonPaddington · 14/10/2021 19:25

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn sorry to hear about the test. Can you use the app to get a cancellation?

@ealingwestmum good luck for tomorrow.

Mocks for DD end of November and after Feb half term. Progress report due tomorrow.

Has anyone who’s submitted logged into Track? DD can’t seem to log in and she’s definitely using the right ID, user name and password. I don’t know why it can’t all be in the hub where she applied! Moan over.

Oblomov21 · 14/10/2021 20:02

Popcorn, book another asap, at your local place. Then use an app such as this one - worked fab for Ds1.
