@JustHereWithMyPopcorn

Any news of Biology being reduced content??? Grin
Yes! For WJEC anyway. But not clear exactly what isn't being assessed, I think that's coming out on Friday. This is what it says for now. Units 3 + 4 are the usual Y13 work.

^Biology / Chemistry / Physics
• AS content that is not developed or required for Units 3 and 4 will not be assessed in summer 2022
• Biology - Identified content for Unit 4 will not be assessed
• Chemistry - Identified content for Unit 3 and Unit 4 will not be
assessed
• Physics - Identified content for Unit 4 will not be assessed^

I'm not sure if this is being done in discussion with other boards so that the approaches will be the same everywhere. Education is obvs devolved in Wales. Anyway hopefully useful while waiting for decisions in England.

Happy birthday to Delphigirl's Delphiboy!

Phone call from school today setting up a meeting with the counsellor next week followed by another meeting with the 6th form team. So we are getting somewhere, fingers crossed.

Am I being dim or have we had OCR yet?

Monkey2001 · 08/09/2021 12:43

@ChristopherTracy

Am I being dim or have we had OCR yet?
I don't think OCR have published, but they all have the same subjects on the same days anyway to minimise clashes.
JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 08/09/2021 13:01

@singingatones We have biology and English as OCR and history as Edexcel. I hope they don’t cut the stuff he’s already learnt!

whoamitojudge · 08/09/2021 13:04

DD back at college today and I've got the house to myself as DH is meeting a potential new work client.
I've been to work already and am enjoying the peace and quiet Smile

The provisional is up. All of DDs are OCR. Sorry, but I’m shite at copying and pasting on my mobile Blush

😬

WJEC are doing well with all this but no sign of any exam timetable yet. I guess that might change with the content changes. DD will definitely have fewer exams as they have cut whole papers in some GCSE subjects.

Volterra · 08/09/2021 13:19

Happy birthday Delphi’s DS!

DS back today, apart from early start he seemed ok in the scheme of things and likes his new tutor.

AnneOfCleavage · 08/09/2021 14:35

Well as predicted DD came home with blisters on Monday - how is your DD doing with her new shoes SandyBayley?

The week is going so far so good. Monday was an "admin" day according to DD so TED talks, timetabling and LFTing and yesterday they visited a local Uni as a whole 6th form which DD was not looking forward to as it was just if you're interested in sports science / medical but actually she really enjoyed it and found it interesting.

She's starting her first paid work today after school just for two hours so I'm having to pick her up as it's too tight a start time with finishing school later now.

I love how your DS is fulfilling his PS statements Delphi, that is v commendable and also happy birthday to him 🥳

Are you still on track for starting back tomorrow Piggy?

Piggywaspushed · 08/09/2021 14:43

I started back yesterday, part time ,and am due back full time tomorrow.

It's been OK so far but it's too HOT!

Piggywaspushed · 08/09/2021 14:44

Is this WJEC stuff Wales only?

Volterra · 08/09/2021 14:50

@ZittiEBuon how is your DD today- have you heard from the school?

AnneOfCleavage · 08/09/2021 14:51

Piggy glad it's going okay. OMG it is hot isn't it. I was dripping after only a morning in school - this is not helping my peri flushes. Mid 20s here but was hotter yesterday.
Both DD are I are Autumn people and she also loves Winter and I love Spring. I don't do extreme temps at all. Guess it's not technically Autumn until after the 21st Sept so this weather is still a Summer hang over.

Delphigirl · 08/09/2021 14:53

Thank you @ZittiEBuoni @Volterra and @AnneOfCleavage!

Delphigirl · 08/09/2021 14:55

Much as I love the sunshine I feel a bit cheated of autumn weather when it is this hot in Sept…

Also I do not have the work wardrobe for it as I don’t work in August and I rely on being able to wear wool for the other 11 months of the year … usually works just fine!!

stoneysongs · 08/09/2021 15:26

@Piggywaspushed

Is this WJEC stuff Wales only?
Yes, only the stuff that goes through QW. They are consulting with Ofqual separately about Eduqas qualifications.
Piggywaspushed · 08/09/2021 15:28

That's what I thought. I teach Eduqas.

ZittiEBuoni · 08/09/2021 15:32

Volterra, thanks for asking, yes, we have set up 2 meetings for next week - one with the school counsellor, one with the 6th form team. They seem quite open to making adjustments for her, so I'm hopeful we'll come up with a workable solution. She's decided she will definitely defer university application till next autumn too, which will be better for her, I think.

Waiting for a call back from CAMHS now...

Volterra · 08/09/2021 15:47

That sounds promising, fingers crossed. Hopefully having made the decision to defer will take the pressure off. Hope CAHMs phone call doesn’t take too long.

stoneysongs · 08/09/2021 15:52

@Piggywaspushed

That's what I thought. I teach Eduqas.
I don't know how much of this is driven by the examining board and how much by the regulator but I guess the approach in England may well be completely different.
Piggywaspushed · 08/09/2021 15:59

Yes, it will be. Wales and Scotland are much more proactive. Working with Eduqas is a bit trying because when you phone them up you still speak to people in Wales who are always quite confused!

stoneysongs · 08/09/2021 16:17

When is the English info due? I think the Welsh teachers really pushed to know the changes before the school year started, which makes sense, not very helpful to spend the first two weeks or whatever of term teaching something that is not going to be assessed. I can post the link to the WJEC stuff if anyone wants to see.
