@Piggywaspushed - I heard the same name as well !

Horace123 · 07/09/2021 21:24

Ok, I don’t think I’ll get away with snogging her too - will be an obvious stitch up. So you guys need to come up with a plan!

Fiddlersgreen · 07/09/2021 23:25

Please could someone post the provisional exam dates again please, I didn’t get a chance to look and now I can’t find it

DS2s teacher has told him he needs to be on a live teams class this afternoon despite being off school with covid. Is it me or is that a bit off? If he was home with flu I doubt they'd expect him to participate.

I'm a bit torn because he's fine and perfectly able to do this and keep up with his studies but the teacher doesn't know that. DS1 has had very achey eyes and couldn't watch a screen or read for long without having to switch off.

CatMandarin · 08/09/2021 09:39

Is it possible they are assuming he's asymptomatic or has it very mildly and don't realise he does have symptoms?. He could respond that he will do his best to attend but that he is ill

CatMandarin · 08/09/2021 09:40

Sorry misread it as your ds1 has achey eyes etc

Monkey2001 · 08/09/2021 09:40

It is a bit off! Very nice to make the lesson available to him, but should be an option depending on how he feels rather than a requirement. I do feel sorry for teachers trying to ensure that every student is taught the whole syllabus though.

stoneysongs · 08/09/2021 09:47

Maybe the teacher does know, they might have asked in class, anyone know whether Just's DS is OK, and friends have reassured that he is?

Or maybe their approach is to assume it's mild as it will be for most, until told otherwise. Sounds like off with Covid does not necessarily equal off sick in their eyes so perhaps they require an extra call if DC need to miss lessons?

Piggywaspushed · 08/09/2021 09:47

DfE guidelines is that work should be set to those self isolating - but only if they are well enough. For the first time, they actually put in writing an acknowledgement that soem young people do actually feel ill...

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 08/09/2021 09:48

@CatMandarin yes he may be thinking he's isolating rather than ill (do they still have to isolate though?) but you'd think he'd ask.

@Monkey202 that's why I'm torn, I am actually grateful that there is stuff available - 100%. It was just written in weird way, DS emailed to let him know he wouldn't be in class as he had covid and the teacher wrote, 'yes you will! The lesson will be live on teams see you there!'

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 08/09/2021 09:50

Ignore me, I'm feeling ill and grumpy. It's nothing in the grand scheme of things and I should be grateful that they've made an effort to make the learning available.

stoneysongs · 08/09/2021 09:51

Does everyone know what changes have been made by exam boards, in terms of what is being examined next year?

WJEC have identified some parts of the course that won't be examined and they're supposed to be publishing that info this week. Teachers know already I think.

stoneysongs · 08/09/2021 09:55

(There are quite significant changes for GCSE, I've discovered. For A level it just says identified content will not be assessed.)

Delphigirl · 08/09/2021 10:19

Hi everyone! Laughing at the snogging of Williamson to get him sacked. What selflessness- That’s the stuff of which resistance fighters are made!
So my sweet little boy is 18 today which has made me surprisingly emotional - more so than for his two elder siblings when they attained adulthood. Just one more to get to majority and then my job is done… ha. Anyway I think we should all give ourselves a clap on the back for raising kind funny likeable kids Halo Grin

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 08/09/2021 10:21

Happy birthday to your DS Delphigirl!

ealingwestmum · 08/09/2021 10:22

Happy birthday to Delphi’s boy!

Alsoplayspiccolo · 08/09/2021 10:30

Happy special birthday to your DS, Delphi!

Back to school for my 2 today, and there last ever first-day photo together, and DS’s last one in uniform. 😢🥰
DD is stressed and overwhelmed by the scale of the year ahead. DS, as noted in his summer report, is so laid-back he’s virtually horizontal about the prospect of GCSEs.

Not sure which attitude is going to be easier to deal with, as a parent. Hmm

Piggywaspushed · 08/09/2021 10:45

Happy Birthday delphI jr!

Delphigirl · 08/09/2021 11:01

Thank you thank you all! Flowers Cake

Delphigirl · 08/09/2021 11:02

Amazing to think I had a thread going on mumsnet when he was born - home birth - masses of lovely messages congratulating me on his arrival. Lovely to read it back!!!

crazycrofter · 08/09/2021 11:03

I thought they hadn’t decided about curriculum changes yet, other than tinkering a bit with the coursework requirements? It’s so unsettling for them!

Dd informed me that the first draft of the personal statement was due on Monday but ‘don’t worry, no one has done it!’. She said they were going to look at it today so I suggested she do a draft last night. She said she couldn’t as she needed to do her history summer work!

Day 3 of exam week for year 11 ds and he was in a foul mood this morning! Also, I’ve just had two £60 penalty notices through for driving in bus lanes! Not the best start to the year!

stoneysongs · 08/09/2021 11:27

Ah maybe they haven't in England then. WJEC have published quite detailed instructions for some subjects (languages egs below) and then some subjects just have content which will not be assessed.

^French / German / Spanish
• In Unit 3 Speaking (NEA), the timing for one of the tasks will be reduced
• One identified subtheme will not be assessed in the Unit 4 examination^

^Welsh Second Language
• In Unit 5 the period of study of the Welsh language in society will be reduced from the middle of the 20th century to the present day to the 1980s to the present day
• In Unit 6 the number of short stories to be studied will be reduced from four to three.^

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 08/09/2021 11:36

@crazycrofter don't you just hate it when they tell you it's not a problem because noone else has done it/everyone did badly/everyone else is going/everyone else has one. Hmm delete as required

DS1 has been going through the first Biology topic for this year which is all biochemistry. He is bad at chemistry and so is finding it difficult to be trying to learn this on his own at home.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 08/09/2021 11:37

Any news of Biology being reduced content??? Grin
