I don’t see it being good. Maybe the universities will make a few more offers next year if they get to the point that they feel exams definitely will go ahead and there won’t be a similar number getting A and A* but I think they will still be very cautious.

FedNlanders · 12/08/2021 10:18

I feel like they have been really hard done by (our lot). Yes I will also have GCSE and Alevel kids next year. :(

ExtremelyDisorganised · 12/08/2021 10:23

GCSE and A level next year here too, with one y10 GCSE to get today (off to school shortly). They have both lost so much school time. I am getting nervous hearing all this stuff about students being asked to defer again this year, it's just going to roll on to next year again.

Monkey2001 · 12/08/2021 10:55

The big issue for next year for competitive courses and universities is that people who have the grades will be taking gap years and trading up with their high 2021 grades. Expect record Oxbridge applications.

Warning to people with DC at schools which do not prepare them for "other" exams such as Oxbridge and STEP. This year Cambridge relied more than usual on admissions tests, at least for Engineering, because it is so difficuly to interview on line. A very bright friend who wanted to do Physics at Cambridge had no help from school at all on the entrance exam and although he interviewed well and was predicted 4 A* from a state school in Wales, his admissions test score meant that he did not get an offer. If your DC is applying to Oxbridge and school don't help prepare (which is most non selective state schools) consider getting a tutor. Probably not such an issue for arts/social sciences.

Can I share my proud Mum moment?
This morning DD got a Distinction star for her BTEC L2 in Travel and Tourism.
We are beyond proud of her as its another step closer to her reaching her dream job

Zandathepanda · 12/08/2021 11:45

who congratulations to your Dd! How lovely she has a dream plan and determination.

Volterra · 12/08/2021 12:09

Congratulations to your DD, how lovely !

BlueMarigold · 12/08/2021 12:19

Congratulations @whoamitojudge that is amazing!

Oblomov21 · 12/08/2021 12:33

Congratulations judge dd.

ealingwestmum · 12/08/2021 12:54

Fantastic news whoami!

Monkey2001 · 12/08/2021 13:14

Great to see impressive BTECH results, well done!

PaddingtonPaddington · 12/08/2021 15:47

Well done whosmitojudge

Goodness knows how this years results will impact our cohort but I’m a bit pessimistic about it. Also will be A levels and GCSEs here too.

Managed to get DD a vaccine today at an 18+ walk in clinic today. If she had been 17 years and 9 months she would have booked in for the second dose but as she’s under this it’s just the one dose for now.

whoamitojudge · 12/08/2021 15:53

Thank you all for your lovely messages. She’s very pleased with herself and now is getting ready to go to work

@PaddingtonPaddington my DD was 17 and 9 months when she had her vaccination but she wasn’t booked in for her second one just told the very earliest date that she could come back

Zebracat · 12/08/2021 16:08

We had some good news. Our girl got an A in her EPQ. She was predicted a D. We have told the school that her predictions are just wrong for her, because her education only really began at 15, so this A and the abs in the PPEs are really helping to make the point.
We were also told by the people conducting a psychological assessment that they she needs further tests for autism, which is not a surprise, but is still a bit anxious making. I just don’t know if a diagnosis will mean she gets loads of help and validation, or if it will just cement her into ever more rigid attitudes.

Monkey2001 · 12/08/2021 16:25

Great news @zebracat

Zandathepanda · 12/08/2021 17:25

Well done to zebra’s Dd too!

ExtremelyDisorganised · 12/08/2021 17:28

Great news @Zebracat and @whoamitojudge Smile

Regarding autism diagnosis, its unlikely to make much difference to provision at school or college now but might make a big difference in the support available at uni through the DSA (disabled students allowance) system, which you normally apply for when you accept offers and needs to be backed up by medical evidence. It may also make a difference in the workplace under the Equalities Act. However it might be upsetting / hard to come to terms with and unless you go private may take some time (my DS was diagnosed aged 7 so a big difference).

ealingwestmum · 12/08/2021 18:00

Thinking of you for tomorrow @Monkey2001; Best of luck to your DS.

Zebracat · 12/08/2021 18:08

Thanks all. @ExtremelyDisorganised, the assessment is private, paid for by the Adoption Support Fund. It’s difficult sometimes to distinguish between trauma responses and autism, as I understand it. I’m just a bit worried that she almost seemed to be performing autism for the assessment. But I think if I said so it would be explained to me that she’d been masking until now. She wore a slogan anime T-shirt she used to wear 4 years ago, and she was shaking her leg really violently. She’s never done that, she’s very still generally and she tends to wear quite different clothes now. I think she needs a diagnosis. I don’t know. Teenagers can be very mysterious.

icanbewhatiwant · 12/08/2021 19:03

@PaddingtonPaddington I read somewhere that under 18's will only be given one vaccine as they are still looking into heart inflammation after second dose. Ds2 is already 17 and 9 months, though not called up yet. I'm assuming he will get 2 as he will be 18 by second dose.

ProggyMat · 12/08/2021 19:17

Has anyone noticed the ‘pinned’ post’ on the ‘Education’ board and ‘Secondary Education’ board???

@icanbewhatiwant , have you tried booking online? I tried earlier and although it now says 17yrs 9mths can now book, I couldn't book DS in

ProggyMat · 12/08/2021 19:19

Or is it ‘just me’ Hmm…

Piggywaspushed · 12/08/2021 19:24

Seen it now!

ProggyMat · 12/08/2021 19:25
