Counselling

Has anyone here trained to be a counsellor? I'm interested in doing this but have no idea where or how to start! There are so many courses advertised I feel a bit blinded by it all tbh.
Can I train to be a counsellor without having to go to uni? Full time study wouldn't be an option for me due to having a mortgage and young children to provide for. I need something that would fit around work. Would really appreciate any guidance from someone who has done it. xx

counsellor is not a protected title and training often self funded. You need a course that’s BACP accredited

There will be part time courses

You’ll also need to have placement to get enough hours and professional supervision (that you pay for)

Being a counsellor isn’t particularly well paid and is hard to get established. Often the jobs are sessional or voluntary to get experience

What interests you about counselling? Why do you want to do it?
Are you resilient? Able to hear distressing narratives and still maintain your own day to day family life without getting over involved
