Open Uni

Has anyone has any experience of credit transfer with the Open Uni?

I already have a Higher National Certificate in a subject. That course is 120 credits according to the OU. However the credit transfer for my HNC is worth only 60 credits, meaning I'd have to fund another 60 credits to effectively get the qualification I already hold. They are in the same subject.

How is that fair?

Hi OP, I have an HNC in Business Management that I gained at college back years ago and OU allowed me to credit transfer 120 credits of the 360 required for a BA (Hons) Business Management degree. I have since completed a further 60 credit and plan to complete the remaining modules at some stage.
So yes, it seems rather unfair that you are only gaining 60 rather than 120 credits!

That's what I thought would happen @Clickncollect. I thought I'd start on 120 credits and do the modules to complete the HND and then eventually the degree.

It's self funded too so I'm not sure why they'd expect me to about £500ish for a qualification I've already got!

So annoying.

In fact no it's £1000ish!

Have you shopped around? Due to Lockdown a lot more unis are offering business management as a distance learning option and often for a little less in terms of cost.

Each 60 credit module for the BA Hons is £3k @supercee (not sure about the HND) so I definitely wouldn’t be happy if they had only given me credit transfer for 60 credits, not to mention the additional time it will take to complete the degree.
My understanding is that no grades for year 1 (120 credits) count towards the final degree grade hence they are able, at their discretion if eligible, to provide up to 120 credit transfer

It's not Business Management my qualification is in unfortunately, it's Social
Sciences but that's a good point about seeing if anywhere else is offering flexible learning.

The Open Uni appealed as you can pay by module instead of forking out upfront as I work full time.
