State 6th forms?

Hello all,

Anyone have recommendations for state sixth forms? SW London or central ish. Ideas? Personal experience particularly welcome, as Ofsted easy to find and tend not to tell the whole story. Child is bright and hardworking and Uni track, looking for stretching, inspiring and but fun, empathic, diverse -- no hot-houses please!

Recommendations very gratefully received.

Many thanks!

Do they have 6th form in the school they're at? It's a big deal to move schools if you don't need to.

Thanks IEat. She does, yes, and that's a (great!) fall-back, but she is keen to know about other choices for various reasons.

Have you considered Esher College in Surrey? State 6th form college, huge variety of courses, students from all walks of life, not a hot house, more like a stepping stone from school to university, as students are encouraged to be more independent than in your average 6th form school. My DD loves it.

Is SE easy to get to? Newstead Wood in Orpington has great pastoral care but also as a grammar has good academics. It seems to strike a very good balance.

DD had an offer from an amazing public school (yes fee paying!) but regardless of money wanted to stay here and plans to join in Sept. they have been excellent during lockdown and have a great student body and leader team with a can do attitude
